So kill the drug users? I can go along with that.

That’ll take out a lot of people you probably aren’t thinking would get taken out.

This fricking board sometimes. They support Trump, in part because of his commitment to getting us less involved in foreign conflicts, I get that.

Then those same posters are like “yeah, let’s invade our large neighbor to the South? Let’s not think about how many immigrants/would be refugees that would push north, let’s not think about how the cartels are far wealthier and as capable as any terrorist organization we’ve been trying to squash for decades. It’s fine. Invasion. Let’s go. What happens after the invasion? The cartels go away? We occupy Mexico for 20 years? Who cares!? Consequences are a tomorrow problem.”

We have been running drug interdiction missions for decades in South America.

Meh this isn't some new and exciting venture.

Having the coast guard chase down some ships in international waters every now and then is a bit different than targeted raids or airstrikes on cartel leadership and infrastructure, which is what I hope this is.

Militarize the border and kill all attempting to trespass.

Place federal bounties on illegals and let Americans make some money off the illegals.

Some folks on this board sometimes.....
I hear ya! You and others that think as you do are simply weak and lack principles.
You've allowed yourselves to be mind fricked by the Marxist narrative of our nation. That we are weak, ineffective, and without honor.

Those are lies. If we choose to go after the terrorist in Mexico, they will be without any hope of defending themselves. Yes, they will be able to inflict some damage within our borders but not as much as you think and we would decimate and cripple their ability to operate.
The folks who live under thier rule in Mexico only do so because they have no way to resist. Once the cartels are weakened, the innocents they've held power over would rise up, with some support.......

Stop being such a wimp....

So do you destroy the coca and cannabis farms?

Or do you keep allowing the cartels to terrorize Mexico?

It not cocaine or weed the USA is worried about here.

Its Fentanyl., which can be mfg anywhere as its synthetic.

Well, there's a more recent example of getting stuck in Iraq with no exit plan.

How about 300 sorties flown in a calendar year? Awacs alone.

Iraq was a bad deal. But there are too many people that were around during that war that think because we lost Iraq and tried to do nation building that every future war will look the exact same. The Vice President was a young NCO in the war. The SECDEF was a junior officer. Most of the generals and senior staff of our military were junior officers in the Iraq and Afghanistan. If anyone is averse to making the same mistakes again it’s those guys.

Kinda like the generals who ran Desert Storm were junior officers in Vietnam. They knew what a losing strategy looked like and took a completely different approach.

So it you’re using history as your guide then you should take all of it into account. Not just the parts that scare you because you’re jaded over Iraq and Afghanistan.

I seriously doubt that’s the “secret plans” that Trump has authorized DOD to conduct against the cartels. Along with MS-13 he just designated a Venezuelan cartel as a terrorist organization. Hopefully we start sending in our ninjas to kill people. The biggest benefit of the AWACS sorties is probably the flight time for the air crews if we’re being honest.

Yeah man, just toss out buzz words you heard on some random podcast like it’s a modern Red Scare. Ya got me. Well done on answering my concerns over possible consequences.

Sure. Let’s go. What could possibly go wrong? I look forward you your thoughtful and unbiased analysis answering that question. I personally think our entire foreign policy should be determined on making sure no one calls us a wimp.
