It might have been his best shot at winning, as it would have sent everyone into such a tailspin that they wouldn't be able to focus on anything else.

His base voted in droves. The people who “voted remotely” never vote and never would have otherwise under any other circumstance. Congrats on your “success “ that is leading to the complete destruction of a great nation, I guess.
