We should stop doing that.

Wait, what are their politicians saying in response to this?

They've been in a tizzy for a month over the various Trump trolling.

And again, all I said was that I don't understand the purpose of needling the Canadians. Or the Danes for that matter, but that is its own thing.

There aren’t too very many people who have “lots” of money, the ones who earned it themselves. It’s really just not very easy to become wealthy on account of your own planning and actions and ability. Are there exceptions to what I described above, sure, there are exceptions to anything. But you’re over-generalizing rather significantly, IMO.

Now, on the other hand are there plenty of “dummies” who became wealthy solely because of inheritance or lottery etc? Of course, that is a more reasonable argument.

Which we don't and won't harvest in the quantities we need.

But then again, I don't really have a problem with trading with a neighbor to begin with.

I don't either. Just pointing out that we really don't need anything from Canada.

They need to pipe down and appreciate the trade deficit.

Only in a speculative way. Prices will come back down.

Our softwood growth is way above our harvest rate. They have to cut.

Not if your own govt is restricting trade.

Why is govt involved in foreign trade at all?

Y'all flipped from Capitalism to Mercantilism and I dont think you even realize it.

Mercantilism is a nationalist economic policy that is designed to maximize the exports and minimize the imports for an economy. In other words, it seeks to maximize the accumulation of resources within the country and use those resources for one-sided trade.

The US has 330 million people. Canada has 40 million. More people with money means that there will always be a trade imbalance especially if like Canada you have a high supply of natural resources that the larger country can consume and the demand stays inelastic.

It's a good deal for us....and for Canada. Win/win

Indeed

Trade imbalances are a sign of a wealthier economy. The fear of them is unfounded.

Well that explains his success in becoming a self made multi billionaire with his name on Hotels world wide and a 2 time sitting president.

Toby, your insight is always so entertaining.
