He really doesn't. The military isn't a restaurant. But sure, let's have the LCpls run the Marine Corps because Trump turned a handout from daddy into a solidly average return.

I don't particularly care what a bunch of Petty Officers have to say about our strategic posture in the region, either.

That is the stupidest reason I have ever heard for being in a war zone. I am talking world class stupidity.

bullshite.
It's unwinnable because we live in a time in human history where everyone gets a say in how we fight our wars.

It’s unwinnable because no one has ever defined what a “win” is.

He's right, you know. I'm no military strategy expert, but I'm confident in saying that's a pretty crucial thing.

The Bush Admin did just that.
Their answer was Nation building, western living, schools, hospitals, a puppet government and all that neocon bullshite.
Tried to implement that. Immediately became a shitshow.
Stayed a shitshow for 18 years and is still a shitshow today.
There is no victory to be had in Afghanistan and denying this truth is killing more of our soldiers and wasting billions of our precious wealth. Period.
Suggesting Afghanistan is winnable is like trying to argue 2+2=5, the sky is green and water is dry.

Kill bin Laden. Disrupt Al-Qaeda's ability to operate in the country. Remove the Taliban from power.
Seems like a good start.

Anyone that works at a large company knows this was a great idea. The best people to ask how to fix anything would be the people in the field .

Those 2 require a never leaving force.
Let other countries carry the ball for a couple decades.
Why not? Shouldn't it be their turn by now?

No they don't.
It requires people in power there who are more fearful of what we'll do to them than Al-Qaeda.
We aren't going to get that because people think we can win with feelings and infrastructure.

Hows that workin' out? Why don't we leave and let those people in power show them what for??

It isn't. I already covered this.

The Red Army, Ghengis Khan's mongols, the Turks, British Empire and the Roman empire had this and they still lost in Afghanistan.
It's the graveyard of empires for a damn good reason and the United States of America is no different and has shared the same outcome as them and official Washington is still in denial about it and that includes you.

We could immediately pull everything and everyone out tomorrow and there would be no difference between then and the situation now.

No they didn't. They had people who didn't want them there, and they tried to stay anyway. They wanted to conquer Afghanistan and subjugate its people.

Chiefs run the Navy, has always been the mantra.
If you want to know what is going on onboard ship, you ask the Chiefs and LPOs.
Officers are big picture guys, removed by design and force of UCMJ

I'm from the school of thought that it's all just putting fingers and toes in the dike (or dyke if you wish) unless the true aggravating factor is completely snuffed out....religious fundamentalism of a certain sort. It's a bit of a difficult task.
