I love this idea

I have been seeing a lot of conservatives mention this as a potential policy.

here is an article talking about it

Haven’t looked into any of this yet, but what would become of the salaries for teachers? Surely they can afford to pay them and redirect funds for the parents.

Since according to the Supreme Court executive orders are irrevocable, that’s a great idea.

We are talking about federal funds here which currently make up about 10% of school budgets. I assume the additional federal bucks would come from COVID relief funding. If you don't open your schools you get no federal funding. That funding goes to the parents.

Great idea IMO.

Exactly. Even if the EO gets challenged and the administration loses that won't be for 2 years long after the money is spent. But currently Trump has SCOTUS precedent based on their DACA decision.

I'll bet a lot of teachers will suddenly feel compelled to get back to the classroom.

Appreciate you clearing things up. Dunno why people would downvote a question like that after I mentioned I wasn’t clear on what was happening

Awesome idea! Our school district actually had requested parental input and 70% of parents said to reopen. So they did. About two days later Gavin Newsome shut everything down by citing the Dept of Public Health. School was scheduled to begin on August 17th. I don’t see it happening at all for this year. The school district mentioned how the students have been struggling with academic, emotional and physical issues due precisely to the shutdown. They know exactly what’s happening and our state government does too. It’s just that the state doesn’t care about any fallout.

Oh eat a dick there’s lazy people not working getting paid that have no desire to go back to work even if it were possible. If a teacher wants to work and the school says they can’t, what are they supposed to do, learn to code?

Okay now let me bring this to your attention - there are dumbass parents who think their kid can’t miss a school event or whatever, so they send their sick kid to school so everyone else can get sick too. Is that what you want? Any teacher who goes into it knowing that simple truth, regardless of their liberal indoctrination agenda, exemplifies that when push comes to shove, they’ll sacrifice their health and safety for a very meager salary for a job where they have to deal with hooligan kids with moron for parents. Obviously I’m generalizing for effect, but would you put up with that bullshite when you’re making $35K per year?
