Some newer fixtures on fit the smaller bulbs. It's crazy how over involved the EPA is in our lives. Obama banning lead fishing baits made me want to fight him.

A lot of downvotes in this thread with no supported arguments that support why this program was worth it.

Should be an Energy Department program or a non-profit private cert program.

Remember the fiasco of the 1/2 gallon or less per flush toilet? Was supposed to save all this precious water but just resulted in more flushes...

Saving the enivornment and consumers billions aren't reason enough?

They make the machines more expensive, dumbass.
ETA: and nearly impossible to service. But if people are shopping based on low power consumption, companies will answer that call without gov mandates that cost taxpayers "billions".

Government involvement in anything NEVER results in a positive outcome in either of the scenarios you mentioned above...

I just want to say that greenhouse gasses is not a climate change measure to my knowledge.
It is a proposed factor in climate change; however, what does a certain amount of greenhouse gas equal in climate change units? What are the units of climate change? I guess temperature change.
If there is a economic reason for business to make "energy efficient" equipment then they will there is no reason to waste money on forcing it.

The reason why your washer and dryer fails is due to the cheap quality of parts the company uses to save money not because of energy star.

The cost of metal is more expensive than plastic. That's why. That and companies design their products to fell so you have to buy another.

Haha I remember my Dad paying the plumber $50.00 to cut holes in all of the plastic water saving things inside every toilet to "get the shite out of here!"

How is it quantifiably saving the environment? Did it statistically make an end result difference?
Is it really the reason consumers saved "billions"? Have they really saved billions? So the competitive advantage for the product is energy savings. Did the product manufacturer just absorb the savings? If it was just a win-win for everyone why wouldn't the manufacturer do it without the program?

Yes. Did fluorescent lighting not exist before 2012? Did auto manufacturers not offer fuel efficient vehicle options before CAFE laws were passed?
Of course they did. If this is driving buying decisions, the market will respond. It always has.
