“They were frozen assets from the Carter admin, and after the Shah was deposed.”

Which we handed over to them as part of our “treaty”

Then Biden handed over $6 billion more “frozen” in Oman(?) from oil sales couple weeks before Oct 7 because of the treaty he put back in place.

All of which were used to enrich uranium beyond 20%, fund Oct 7 and the subsequent proxy terrorism after, and prepare the regime to slaughter its citizens when they protested.

But there’s no imminent threat so let’s just cash them out again and keep repeating “don’t” shall we??

Either childish or dumb. The result of blowing up JCPOA was pissing off everyone from Iran to Russia & EU and then assassinating Soleimani.

It illustrates an escalation. It doesn’t paint any heroes.

The past 40 years shows otherwise.

And I've been for pulling our troops from everywhere. If they are just going to reposition some folks already deployed, I'm for it. I'd rather that than paying them to chill in the Pacific and jerk off.

Aren’t you prior service? You could always jump back in the fray.

Be a hero and a role model for your fellow warhawks here. They’re counting on you, stud!

I didn’t think an administration could be more inept than the Biden administration but goodness Trump is trying hard.

What’s the alternative at this point? Not collect the uranium? Leave the regime in place to come back at a later time after they rebuild their military so they can take their revenge? Seriously, what choice do we have now that we’ve gone in and done what we’ve done?

Now, reacting to changing environment on the ground is “winging it”. Nice.

The administration has mishandled this so badly that there may no longer be a viable counterpart to negotiate with, effectively eliminating a clear off-ramp. At this point, the least disruptive path may be de-escalation paired with a broader geopolitical compromise, potentially allowing China to step in economically to stabilize and rebuild, in exchange for guarantees that a reconstituted Iranian government takes a less hostile posture and sanctions are gradually lifted.

Complicating matters further, there’s little indication that Congress will support sustained funding for this effort, which makes a disorderly and unattractive outcome increasingly likely. No matter how it unfolds, the endgame is shaping up to be messy.

This situation reflects a profound lack of strategic foresight, and it’s reasonable to expect accountability for decisions that led to such a constrained set of options.

Ugh - I just saw the 30Y is soaring, inflation is about to go nuts

If you volunteer for military service, what exactly are you training for, getting paid for, accruing retirement benefits etc if not to fight the wars of the U.S. govt?

To the military folks and those yelling “NO MORE ME WARS”, what wars exactly did you sign up to fight in? The last time US territory was attacked by another nation state was 12/7/1941 at Pearl Harbor, HI.

So I guess I am confused as to what exactly these folks thought they were signing up for?

From Korean thru Present Day, the U.S. military has been sent into harm’s way to places that have not directly attacked the U.S. homeland.

If you sign up and know this, why would you be angry about fighting in one of these conflicts?

Are these folks suggesting that those that sign up should just be paid, fed, and housed to train and for the military to be just another social program for the masses?

I think deterrence is the right answer but I don’t care - I just don’t want to dump any more money into pointless nation building in the Middle East. Having a $1T+ military per year probably makes the US more likely to get dragged into stupid conflicts - so perhaps we should cut their budget in half and see how it goes.
