It’s completely destructive to society in numerous ways.

What specifically regarding porn makes it worthy of being considered a felony?

I understand and respect your thoughts on it being negative, but being negative doesn't in and of itself make something worthy of sending another person to prison particularly when its not harming anyone else.

Alabama has some of the toughest anti porn laws.

Until the Southern Baptists have their Convention.

It shouldn’t be in that either.

When I watch Game of Thrones, I want to enjoy a high fantasy epic. I don’t want to watch pornographic sex scenes.

I got a prostate, and the only prescription is more Asian girl on girl action.

It destroys those who make it. It destroys those who view it, and occasionally it will destroy those who come in contact with the people that have already been destroyed.

And let me be clear this is not some ignorant, sheltered Puritanical statement. I’m somebody that grew up in a time with pornography readily available on the Internet and have viewed it far more than I’d like to admit. That’s how I know.

How does it destroy those who view it? Degrade maybe, but destroy? No.

You say your perspective doesn't stem from a puritanical viewpoint.

Absent a biblical moralistic code with which I actually agree that its not good, in what way are they "destroyed" by viewing porn?

And beyond that, in what way would it justify sending someone to prison for it for 20 years?

You're suggesting sending someone away to prison forcibly to live with rapists, murderers and cartel members because someone was watching a porno. How is that reasonable? How does that "save" the person who you claim to be so concerned with. Your punishment far exceeds the nature of the mistake and destroys the life of the person you claim to want to save.

The punishment in no way meets the crime. Your crime isn't even a crime.

A sin? Yes.

A crime. No.

Porn is like street drugs, ruins everything it touches. Watching it is a waste of time and energy. I would be surprised if this becomes law.

Could the same thing be said for the hours you spend on a message board?

I haven’t read the law, but I suspect criminal liability comes from creating and furnishing porn, not watching it.

But to your other points, if you’re actually interested, quick Google searches on “how does porn affect viewers” or “how does porn affect marriage” would show you the destruction porn causes.

Pornography undermines family life, marriage, and moral formation. Government, which is in the business in promoting human flourishing, has an interest in stopping these negative effects.

We can agree to disagree. Back at you.

How does prison affect viewers?

Because that apparently is the proposal being made.

Prison doesn’t help marriages.
Or kids.
Or anything other than keeping offenders from hurting someone else or paying for a grievous offense with years or decades of their life.

We sending adulterers to prison too?
How about premarital sex?

20 years sound about right for those as well?
