Under the prior administration military members could get gender reassignment surgery on the tax payer dime. If we could afford that we can tell them we will laser off the hair or they can separate from the service.
I dont really care about the tatoos or beards (as long as they know their mask wont seal). I would prefer to rid the ranks of the fatties.

Well-groomed beards should be allowed.

That's why Hitler had that stumpy short mustache. He was a message runner in WWI. He was gassed and badly injured in the war. He had one of those long whiskers mustache popular at the time. While recovering in the hospital he trimmed what was necessary so that he could get a good seal of his gas mask.
And know you know the rest of the story.

Do tattoos make it extremely difficult to get a seal on a gas or oxygen mask? Can tattoos be a hygiene problem?
That’s been debunked.
Can’t have a 6in beard, but a slight beard doesn’t mess with the seal.

Yeah, bearded men in the Army is not a problem. They just need to amend 670-1 to regulate beards, not the 1/4" bullshite. If they allowed soldiers to groom it, the beards of every soldier with a medical or religious exemption wouldn't look all ate up.

Not really sure facial hair is a slippery slope…

You do grasp that the a decent military is not in the business of measuring beards to determine if they will be or won't be a problem.
A good rule should be one where they don't have to check everyone's beard to make sure soldier A's beard is a problem while soldier B's is not. It's not some HOA where some douchebag has time to go around with a ruler measuring everyone's lawn to make sure it falls within the rules.
And I take it you don't know many US commercial airline pilots. Pretty much every one in the US has either a no beard or minimal beard policy. They don't really think it has been "debunked" enough. They don't like playing the game of measuring individual beards to make sure they are within safe parameters or taking the chance of their pilot passing out in an emergency situation.

Old man rant incoming:
Beards have been an issue for years, but, living in a military town, and seeing soldiers daily, the two things I hate to see is how fat soldiers are on average now, and the new rule allowing ponytails for females, which just looks sloppy as shite. It seems like we constantly find ways to make standards more relaxed for females, but still force the males to have the same dumbass looking haircuts they've had since the 50's.
I had the misfortune of seeing all the AIT students "marching" (well, casually walking, since no one was in step) in the Veterans Day parade. It was embarrassing. Fatties, ponytails, utility uniforms (don't know what bdu's/acu's are called today) that looked like they'd been wadded up in a laundry bag the night before.
I marched in that same parade 25 years ago, in class a's, and it was preceded by a week of uniform inspections and a fresh haircut was mandatory, and most of us had generally mastered synchronized walking. Oh, and fatties pulled road guard or kp.
Ok, old man rant off.

quote:I'm not religious, but the first Sunday in basic training, after finding out that anyone who didn't attend a service had to GI the barracks all morning, I was trying to decide on which service to go to, and decided on hanging out with the 'pagans' because I figured it would be the most chill. I fell in with the 2 weirdos claiming to be pagans, and after the other groups marched off to various services, my drill sgt walked us to the treeline and made the three of us hug a tree for two hours. I just GI'd the barracks every Sunday after that.
Yeah the “Norse pagans” are the biggest dipshits. “I’m a pagan so I can have a religious exemption” derp

Nah. They just do that with haircuts.
Or they did, I guess. Today, we care about beards, but not haircuts I guess.

I didn’t like people not shaving but a lot of the black dudes got really bad bumps on their faces.

Facts. Go to any support unit and 75% of the formation has beards and look dumpy as frick.

Yep. They already sent instructions down not to show any pictures on social media of fat or bearded soldiers.

To cosign someone earlier, I think a big part of the problem is the 1/4 inch rule. That just makes it look like you woke up hungover and late after a four-day and ran to formation without shaving. Terrible. Guys with legit issues shaving should be allowed a short (under an inch) well-trimmed beard.

What's wrong with bearded troops? Some people might not like Pete's slicked back spic hair look, or the shitty irish tattoos on his forearm. Let them grow beards. Let them be men. Let them fight.

It wasn't uncommon on Lejeune on Mondays to see some bored GySgt or 1stSgt outside the seven day store or French Creek PX who was there solely to give Marines shite about their haircuts.
