No. It goes further back than that. Where we messed up was getting involved in WWI. Even though we were “neutral” until 1917, we never really were. For starters, while we honored the British blockade of Germany’s, we did not do the same for the German blockade of Britain. And also, by the end of 1915, we were bankrolling Entente Powers war efforts, plus supplying them with munitions. Had we been truly neutral, the war could not have lasted past early 1916 at the latest. And then when we did jump into the war, President Wilson’s insistence that we would not negotiate a peace with the Kaiser, it ensured Germany would devolve into chaos after the war. Wilson paved the way for the Third Reich, the Soviet Union, and the destruction of European society as it was known at that time.
Without American interference, the war that broke out in Europe the summer of 1914 would have been far shorter, with far less loss and destruction, and without the complete social upheaval that’s followed for the subsequent 110 years. Basically, we started the chain of events that now have us in the final death throes of Western Civilization.

Maybe, just maybe your image of the Nazis and their record of atrocities is the result of war propaganda by the victors who have since controlled the narrative.

Get real dude, we were already at war with them in all but a formal declaration, which Germany recognized.
It would be the same situation as today if we went to war with Iran and then Russia declared war on us and we acted like it was out of nowhere, when we have been funding the Ukraine war for 2 years.
