yeah .. I guess that is why he is on the hook for $200K ... because it was a small favor.
$200,000.00 + .... no big deal ... small favor.
Now, in addition to his daughter having died ... he is financially ruined for not practicing better business.

My parents co-signed a student loan for me, and it has actually helped their credit.
It doesn't really apply to the OP, but if you raise responsible children who know to pay their bills on time then you can feel pretty secure about cosigning a loan with them. Of course you also have to know when to put your foot down and say that there's no way that a $100k nursing degree is worth borrowing money for.

The fact she CHOSE to pay 100k for nursing school is retarded.
Oh, I agree. My comments in this thread are not intended for the specific situation in the OP.

Now it's a relatively small risk, but they got caught. No sympathy.
I have sympathy. Not only did the lose their daughter prematurely, they got caught with a shite load of debt they didn't ever anticipate. To not have sympathy for any parent after the death of their child suggests you may be a sociopath.

holy shite, that type of message is just scary no matter what your ideology is.
"you're 'mindfully siding' (aka having your own opinion) and that doesn't align with mine, that's APPALLING for me to have to see on this board"
It's the same sort of thing you see from libs when it comes to the gay/LBMSQYEITE(*@##& issues/threads.

It's sad they lost their child....the debt thing was a risk they knowingly took on. Look, in statistics we never say a thing has either a probability of 1 or 0, you need to understand that no matter how small, there is still a chance you get caught by that risk.
they did. they knowingly accepted they could be caught, so I have zero sympathy for them on the debt.

POSTER 2:You're mindfully siding with the banks on this - very appalling to see this type of message on a democratic party message board.
That is the problem with Democrats in this country versus any other party. They will destroy anyone who believes anything other than what they believe. They are the most intolerant group.

but to swear off all co-signing makes you a shitty parent.
Or...a parent that actually demonstrates good judgement and financially reasonable actions.
Perhaps, that would have been an excellent lesson. One that, had she lived, may have been a great service to her. Good parenting

I agree.
Personally, if I knew them and knew they were good people ... I'd certainly consider helping them pay off the debt via donation.
But, the debt is real, and they own it now.

The democrats are scary at this point. They will destroy anyone who believes anything other than what they believe. They will do it with the NSA, IRS, Regulations, Lies, ....by any means necessary.

I also wondered about personal responsibility when reading that article, but felt like a dick.
My other thought was, did her kids have a dad? Or three different dads? I read it and thought "that girl was out of control while living".
But I am probably a bastard.

What do you consider financially reasonable? Would co-signing a loan of, let's say 25K, for your son to get a degree in petroleum engineering seem like a reasonable investment in his future?
If you raised your child well, they will understand the risks associated with their debt and the fact that they are on the hook for some of their tuition will likely make them take their studies more seriously than you paying all of it.

This guy was a pastor so you gotta figure that he was pretty low on the intelligence scale.
100K for a nursing degree? It is a 3 yr program. My niece just did it by going to a community college and her total loan amount is ~ 10k. She now makes about 70k with overtime.

Yes, and he would never have co-signed for $10,000 in student loans, let alone $100,000.

Student loans are the entire reason tuition prices have skyrocketed
exactly, LSU doesn't need a fricking lazy river in the shape of LSU around the rec center and Mizzou doesn't need a waterfall.

Federal government involvement in a sector means higher prices, we see it everywhere, especially healthcare. Higher education is now jumping on the gravy train.
They have been on that gravy train.

How much math, science or engineering do you need to be a pastor? Do you even need a high school diploma? In terms of making money, pastor is a worse field than getting a 4 yr. liberal arts degree.
Think about it, dumbfrick!

1) Pretty sure most pastors aren't in it for the money.
2) Exceptions to every rule: "You, sir, are the dumbfrick... I'm ROLLIN' ... bwahahahahahaa." Sincerely, "Reverends" Sharpton, Jackson, Wright
