You can crawl on your knees at a La Quinta Inn and get executed but you can throw a shoe at the POTUS and just walk away?
In a region rife with war and terrorist bombing, you have more latitude to attack the POTUS than you do being drunk in a La Quinta Inn in Arizona.

W was the most innocuous POTUS we've had in a very long time.
That worked to his disadvantage because the media thought they could write or say anything they wanted about him with no repercussions, and they were correct.
