So this morning that idiot in North Korea gave his New Year's speech. In that speech he wished South Korea well with the coming olympics and said he would like to negotiate sending a delegation to the Olympics from North Korea.

The South Koreans responded by saying they welcome the talks with North Korea.

Our job is done. They are talking. Nobody in the area really liked the attention we gave the idiot and they were particularly skeptical of our war talk.

The door is now open. Trump did his job. Now that the Koreans are talking he should now do what is in the best interest of Americans and simply declare we are through with the Korean Peninsula and wish them all good luck. We can then tell the Japs they are welcome to re-arm.

After all of that we should be able to cut military spending a few hundred billion a year as we should

I think this will be harder than bringing peace to the Korean peninsula.

Probably so given the money defense contractors spread around DC.

until the swamp is drained completely, the cabal dismantled, and people put in prison or executed, we should not acknowledge shite to NK....if and when that happens, little fat rocketboy will have nobody hiding in the shadows to help him

I guess our job is done in the Middle East too. I mean Israel and the Palestinian authority have been talking for decades now. I guess we can pack up shop everywhere and bring everyone home.

Give up our two of our best client states? Never. Japan and South Korea need to remain in our sphere of influence.

the better question is how many will you have to sacrifice by eventually having to go back into these places because your short sighted pulling out caused them to spiral into chaos? Say we completely pull out of South Korea, what stops China from taking the whole damn peninsula?

Behind the OP's post is an undeniable truth...the Pax Americana is ending. We cannot afford the same foreign policy as a nation that is 20 trillion in debt with a debt/GDP ratio approaching that of Greece that we could as a unipolar nuclear armed power that the world could not match in technology or industry in the two decades following world war two. This is particularly true if our people and industries have to compete against those of our client states in the name of free trade while we foot the bill for their defense.

You mean there is some form of chaos worse than the last 20 years of chaos in the ME??

Why do you care so much for the ME and so little for American soldiers??

Give me a break.

So long as Japan is the second (sometimes first) largest holder of US T-bills it quite debatable which country controls the "sphere of influence".

SK, sure.

Japan is more complicated. We are obligated to their defense and in return they harbor nothing more than a meager defense force.

Not sure if an independent Japan is best for stability in the region or our own natl defense and frankly, of all our foreign expenditures, japan is the one I resent the least.

They actually have been a good ally.

The current debt/GDP is less than someone who makes $200K/yr in salary having a $205,000 house note. Would you think that person is in rough financial shape, or well off?
