Which is a us political tool and fundraiser. Politicians don’t benefit with tiktok and this is why it’s a problem.

China sucks arse but this move is a political and $$$ move. They know they are losing control with how cable cutters got off tv programming and now users leaving their social media for another.

ABC, all bout control.

It’s a bit crazy to see American patriots wanting to shut down freedom of speech.
If you think tiktok is our doom, your president is bought off by the actual CCP. Never forget

They learned how well they can spy on people using data of US companies.

They cant allow China to have the same kind of data.

Its what we do best, lecture adversaries for doing the same shite we do.

Getting rid of tiktok does not give the government or politicians more control in the social media arena. That ship has sailed. Tiktok is trash. The other social media apps are too, but for different reasons.

I would say TikTok has tons of politics on it. From both sides. There are people having open/live conversations all the time on the site. Not to mention the age groups that it targets. Now that could be a problem for people who do not want the younger generations voting.

Wrong. Tiktok is doing very well and was asked and inquired about their profits today during the hearing , many times.

What does tiktok doing well have to do with what I said? I'm confused.

I guess I should have added that getting rid of Tiktok is not going to make the majority of their users move to Facebook. That's not how it works.

Is Facebook doing the bidding of the Taiwanese and Indian governments too? They've both banned the app in their country. Perhaps there is more to this than you realize.

Yeah, it basically boils down to who you would prefer spying on your kids.

I guess it's telling that it's probably a tough choice for a lot of people.

When you claim to be a free country, don’t get mad when you lose control. Or be the best you claim to be and make something better.

There is definitely some frickery afoot. This guy is doing a good job sorting through it.

Of course it's not only China that would be designated a "foreign adversary" whose "holdings" are subject to censorship. And it's not only TikTok that could be banned under this authority. It's a sweeping new array of ill-defined "national security" powers handed to the Executive

Here's the bill that has the most momentum and is likely to pass the Senate. It would vest the president with unilateral power to make an incredibly vague determination that some entity poses a "national security" risk, and then just let him take whatever punitive action he wants

If you're demanding Joe Biden be granted the power to unilaterally ban TikTok -- prohibiting all Americans from using a particular social media app -- you're demanding one of the most brazen acts of state censorship ever, and chanting "CCP" over and over again won't change that

How does SnapChat play into all this? I see my kids on SnapChat a lot more than tictok.

Yeah, there is no way gen Z is moving on to Facebook if tictok is banned. I could see a slight surge to Instagram (which is Meta) though.

There was a representative earlier who was asking the TikTok representative about their app allowing parental controls.

Something along the lines of the US representative's kids having those controls on their phones/app, but it only telling the child "You've been using this app for 60 mins" but continually lets them view content on the app.

The US rep lambasted TikTok for it. Like what? It's YOUR god damn kids, it's YOUR responsibility to monitor them and what they take in.

The more I see of this hearing, the more I side with TikTok. It's nothing but a bunch of old fossils who have no clue what is even going on.

Snap you can send whatever you want. I don’t know their technology details. My teenage son used to go tiktok live to stream his Xbox. He’d get banned all the time because they knew he was a minor. I give tiktok kudos there. He was making like $50/week, but they’d always suspended the account before he could cash out lol. But just his voice or whatever he would always get suspended. Most of the content on his tiktok was all peer related to what his interests were. I’d say I have more faith in tiktok than snap because he’s had drama on there. I think tiktok is a lot less controversial because you pretty much are recording yourself to a live platform. Snap is specific but could be captured by even friends to fk one over.
