It definitely has gotten the publicity.
From what I understand, nobody will know anything for certain until the DNA tests are completed, which are being carried out by scientists in 5 different countries. I listened to this being discussed on Coast To Coast last night.

It's not being suppressed.
There isn't enough evidence to make conclusions about what they've found, so disciplined science types are staying quiet until they find more information.

I am not ready to embrace aliens (in the interstellar travel sense). I do believe that there are realms/dimensions beyond our everyday perceptions. I will see how this case plays out. This may be a huge head fake to distract folks.
We know nothing of our true past. As others have pointed out, much is being suppressed.
As for the hypothetical religious implications, some feel that true human essence is being suppressed by the constructs of society, money, and religion. Others feel that religious faith allows acceptance of a universal intelligence and it's design as it unfolds. I accept both premises and feel no conflict.
