Wisconsin School District Abandons ‘A-F’ Grading Scale to Prevent Stress
So what did they come up with?
quote:
Now, top students will be graded as “exceeding” while failing students will be “emerging.”
I mean
quote:
“Exceeding” – Student consistently exceeds grade-level expectations for the end of the year.
“Meeting” – Student consistently meets grade-level expectations for the end of the year.
“Developing” – Student is developing understanding and is approaching grade-level expectations for the end of the year.
“Emerging” – Student begins to show initial understanding of grade-level expectations for the end of the year.
Notice all say "for the end of the year" which means no one fails.
quote:
Schneider points out that the new grading system doesn’t apply directly to a student’s performance in each subject. Instead, students are graded on their ability to work in groups and tell stories.
"Mom I'm emerging....can I go out and play?"

This is how you manage mid spectrum autistic people. That is the standard we are now holding general students to?

This sounds like the Kindergarten grading scale being expanded to higher levels.

Why fix what is not broke. But I'll play:
quote:
“Excellent!” – let em know that are what society expects and respects.
“Melting” – let em know that they are still here, but they should strive for excellence.
“Devolving” – let em know they are slipping into the primordial abyss.
“Hemorrhaging” – let em know they are a worthless drain on society.

Emerging?
No frickstick, you're STUPID! And you deserve a F. When I was in elementary school, the bad grade was a U. UNSATISFACTORY!

They do this shite in my boys’ elementary school. Their report card is all full of E’s and M’s. I’d like to think that parents can figure out that Exceeding means an A and so forth.

Like all new “ labels” the kids and parents will to a quick conversion to the ABC scale in 2.75 nanoseconds.
Reminds me once when I attended a kid’s soccer game. I was late and asked the mom the score. She proudly announced that this was a no score league that taught the game in a non competitive way. The slightly older sibling then told me the score!
Reality always bites good intentions in the arse.

Solid

I'll play:
"Passing" - you're ready for the next step in reality
"Maintaining" - you have the potential for the next step but you're not there yet and don't take a step back
"Failing" - you're not ready for the next step in life; try a lot harder
"Special" - stay home with Mom and Dad and try to color inside the lines
