NBC news did their entire report on the incident without even so much as mentioning the police who shot the woman's NAME much less that he was a Somali immigrant. Now just imagine for a second the roles were reversed and a white police woman shot a Somali immigrant from the inside of her cop car THROGH the window and out the other side. This story is easily the next Ferguson or Treyvon shooting. However, the narrative didn't fit this time so let's go ahead and not even mention anything about names or race.

What if the people voted once a year on the group we elected to enforce facts by the media. It would force people to really pay attention to the direction of the country. And making them able to make a change quick rather than waiting fours until it's possibly too late.

Imagine each state having a media representative and that state voted every single year to keep them or not. It's not like they have to do anything but be honest. If each state can't find one honest person in that process then fuvk it.

I agree that this is not what we need of free press.

What I mean by prof read and edit is taking the story the networks create, which they make up what they want now, and edit it until it's the truth. Not edit it to fit a narrative and not prof read to make sure it's spelled correctly. basically make sure it's true, that's what I meant.

May have already been posted but I thought this was funny.

Mohamud Noor, who is not related to the officer, is also a city council candidate. He and others in the Somali community have protested other police shootings in the region along with Black Lives Matter, but this one “changes the narrative,” he said. Usually, they are protesting the death of black men at the hands of police, he said. Now it is a white woman reportedly shot by a black officer. He hopes the conversation will focus on police reform, not racial stereotypes. This is the time to bring people together,” he said. “We have so many questions. What happened? Why were the body cameras off?”

then that group would still consistently enforce facts in accordance without 51% of Voters view facts. How do you not see the problem there? I mean I can show it to you but I can't make you understand it

I want you to look at our current elected officials and then apply that process to what you're asking me about. If you don't see that as worse than the current situation in the media I can't help you

You're wanting to change a majority bias media to a monolithic biased media. One where the state has legal power against media it determines to not be telling the truth

You do realize that right?

Ok, I get it. But there has to be a way to punish these people. Has to be. But it never happens when it's obvious they can say whatever they want and call it facts.

It is getting a decent amount of coverage, but the manner of coverage is completely hypocritical.

The shooter is portrayed as a good person who just made a mistake. The whole thing is just an "unfortunate incident."

He may be and it may be, but like many of these things, it's the hypocrisy that really pisses people off.

no there really isn't. At least not using state power or legality. Think about what you're saying man. Good God

yes. They can. I hate their shite as much as the next guy but you're fricking crazy. Have you not thought this through? You want the ability to punish people for writing things you feel aren't factual? You do realize you're as likely to end up in the crosshairs on that one as anyone else right?

Just look at right now. Where would these monitors come from you suppose? If monitor is existed right now who do you think they'd be shutting down? There's at least a half decent chance they be shutting down the outlets you like.

I mean not to put too fine a point on it but what exactly do you think the media would have looked like under your Genius system had it been created in 2008? Or 2012? Or 1992?

Do you think those monitors would have given you media you like or media you don't

This was a good topic to discuss. I hate that the OP mentioned media censorship and got the whole thing off track.

What is funny about this thread is you have a bunch of people like me, who don't trust the media, but think this idea in the OP is just insane.

Yet you have Progs on this site (and everywhere IRL for that matter) that KNOW there is a blatant media bias, but mock those like me who point that out.

I agree, I am against any media censorship. Period.

But I still recognize the blatant bias.

It is funny and sad at the same time.

Today's media serves only one purpose.
