The market drives what people watch, and want to watch. Freedom of the press allows us to say that Obama is a lizard person and Trump raped a teenager. It also allows amazing reporting and good work.

So you'd rather be able to call obama a lizard on social media than have pure facts about important meaningful events? I give up. I'm obviously thinking too hard here and I wish everyone a great day.

Somali cop?

So THAT'S why the cop haters convention thread fell off the front page. They usually last longer.

The point I was trying to make, that you're missing is this. People don't watch the news for bland facts and stories. People are inherently animals at their core. They want to shite crash and burn, they want to see fights, they want to see death, and then they want to hop on social media and discuss it (as long as it isn't happening to them) So the media sensationalizes these stories, they give you the hard hitting action investigation you want, they replay tragic events over and over, and you as the consumer eat that shite up. Their ratings go up and they provide more of the same. Ethnic cop killing white women doesn't provide the shock value, the political narrative, or faux outrage that the reverse situation gives. So it doesn't get pounded day after day, just a quick write up and on to the next sensation.
The return to true neutral media will never happen until the public quits flocking to TV to eat up whatever "gotcha" moment and giving them the power they have. So in essence it will never happen. People want change, but they do not want TO change.

This is all true. But on social media you should be allowed to have more freedom to say whatever and trust me, you can watch these same news videos repeatedly on social media without a major network shoving it down your throats until they think you see it their way. But until these major "news" networks start reporting cold hard facts they should have to put for entertainment purposes only at the top of the headline.

You can't call yourself a major news network and spew whatever shite you please. That's the point. I'm not trying to take away the right to call Obama a lizard person on social media. Just trying make "professional" news networks accountable for bullshite they spew.

You can act a animal and watch shite crash and burn all day on social outlets.

But as far as major news networks go, shite needs to change and if you can't see that then that's sad.

Yeah, but for a reason you might not consider.

Studies have proven that people pay closer attention to bad news then good news. Why? It's it survival instinct leftover from when we were still hunter/gatherers. Our brains are wired to remember and pay closer attention to the bad things. Because knowing those bad things may have saved our life.

So yes, it's still our animalistic instincts. And news organizations have learned this. Hence, why the news is mostly doom and gloom.

You really don't see a problem with officially state run media?

That's the strangest expression I've ever heard. And what's wrong with mandatory body cameras and civilian oversight committees? We're now starting to see body cameras in use, and they're working. They also show instances when the cop turned out to be 100% right. It will work both ways.

We don't have civilian oversight. Mostly because police have resisted at every attempt. Don't get me wrong. I absolutely hate having someone standing over my shoulder while I'm doing my job. But I don't have near the level of authority and power that a police officer does.

You got any ideas shorty?

I just would like to see a group of people truly committed to making sure facts are put out by the major news networks.

My lack of any idea on how to fix the media doesn't mean an idea that is WORSE than the present is a good idea.

That's liberal thinking.

Not everything has a public solution.

We already have a group that's supposed to do that. The media. And, you've correctly identified that they suck at it.

That's because the group is populated by humans and humans can be manipulated, or simply choose to let their biases get in the way.

Replacing that group of humans with another to oversee them does zero to change that reality

All you end up with is the same human biases with the added power of the state.......

So now, MOST media is biased.

With state run media, you can remove the word "most" from the above sentence

Obviously a tragic situation.I'm not going to try and make sense out of it.

When suggesting having a group to monitor the news,I'm reminded of a line from the movie "Enemy of the State";

"Who will monitor the monitors?"
