i wish this narrative would go away, or talking heads would speak the truth. many insurance policies (mine included) don't cover "acts of terror" which i bet your arse insurance companies would classify this as.

Also, insurance is a business.
It's stupid logic but look at the people using said logic.

My insurance doesn't cover looting and vandalism.

It may be the lowest IQ argument I've come across, coming from someone who has worked in the corporate insurance industry since graduating college.
Many policies do not cover it, but also it's a lazy argument and you are justifying destroying someone's business...who cares about the hard work to get the business just how they want it. Even if it is covered there will be a giant deductible, possible loss of income. That's like me saying, it it's okay to destroy someone's vehicle because they have insurance. Or go ahead and steal all of your friends valuables because they have insurance on them.
They are justifying destructive and actions that we should not partake in. It's a fricking moral issue and tells me more about the person making the argument.

If a rioternhas health insurance can I break his jaw? If they have life insurance can I shoot them? Its a ridiculous premise.

My response to them is; since you have health insurance, then it's ok for me to break your legs with this baseball bat.

Insurance isn't some freely-dropping-out-the-sky thing either. If some businesses get looted and burned, then the insurance pays for it with.......the premiums paid by other, non-looted businesses and individuals.
And the premiums will rise. It is a cost for everyone who is paying into the insurance pool. Everyone is compensating those businesses for the looting. Insurance is not free $$$.

Not to mention that rates for everyone is affected by insurance payments made to cover losses. We will all pay for this, one way or another.

Also there will be considerable down time as the business recovers.

Does insurance just replace the cost to buy the item or a margin? Margin pays the rent and employee pay.
