Playing drums since I was 12, with experience playing in different bands live on stage, my biggest influence was Stewart Copeland. There’s some amazing drummers out there today. I think most were influenced by Peart, and Copeland is up there as well.

I've only been playing for about 6-7 years. I'm actually historically a singer-songwriter with my main instrument being guitar, but my church needed more drummers for the worship band so I gave it a shot.

I can keep time and I play on regular rotation with the worship band and can do basic fills, but don't have the rudiment chops to do what lots of players can do today. And I mean A LOT of players.

I think the internet has revolutionized drumming. When I was coming up you had to hire a teacher and get one on one lessons to learn a lot of the tricks of drumming (and I never realized that there were so many physical tricks you have to master to play drums until I started playing them...way more than guitar).

Now you can get access to just about every type of drum instruction you can imagine online, often for free. I think it's resulted in an explosion that has made a degree of technical ability that was once rare, now fairly common.

And the new generation of trap players (who seem to be almost 100% black kids, for some reason) in worship music blow my mind.

Look at this kid:

There's definitely some Copeland hi hat influence there!

I guess it's the same with anything...which is why you can go to YouTube and see 9 year old kids playing Eruption on guitar, but I notice it more with drumming.

I wish I could go back and learn all the rudiments in band when I was a kid and had the neuroplasticity to do it. I'm too old to learn them now, and I've tried...I can practice a rudiment for months every day and still not be able to play it at this point.

That’s a pretty good assessment, I never really thought about the internet being a drum lesson tool, but it makes perfect sense. It would’ve been awesome to have that advantage back in the day.

I took from Ray Fransen for three years while marching in HS and college. I started playing in rock bands while in college. Marching and Concert band definitely helped with my style. It was in the late 80’s so we did a bunch of Police songs, probably why Copeland was such a big influence.

Side note: I see a lot of Steve Gadd as well, in the guy you posted.

She got molested by a homeless drug addict and started getting red pilled and more based. Shocker
