It's falling at a very fast rate now. It has descended by about 15 kilomers in the last 20 minutes.

It's headed back up again.

I wish this graph had speed. The orbit isnt elliptical as it has multiple high and low points in a single orbit.

I'm guessing it's speed is also accelerating and decelerating with its decreases and increases in altitude.

This is a damn April Fools joke. I’ve been watching this damn space station for two hours and it’s not going down at all.

If there’s a highway to the danger zone, you know there’s an Asian driver on that space station putting it there.

Some of you people need to take a step back. shite has gotten toxic as hell on here. The “Parkland brats” survived a mass shooting less than 2 months ago. Whether you agree with them or not, be adults about it. They are kids trying to figure this crazy arse world out too.

I think some of the comments about the students are over the top, but what exactly is the definition of “survived”. Technically, they are alive so they did survive. However, most of these students weren’t even in the same building.

I saw someone get shot in a parking lot once. I was much closer than the Parland 5 students were to the shooter and never once considered myself a “survivor”.

Hey! I am a Hurricane Harvey flood survivor even though the water never even entered my yard. Put me on TV so that I can tell the government to ban water!

Only one person has ever been struck by falling debris. Lottie Williams of Tulsa, Oklahoma, was uninjured in 1996 when a small piece of debris from a rocket fuel tank fell on her shoulder while she was out for a walk.

In the unlikely event debris falls on your property, China would be obligated to pay for damages under the Convention on International Liability for Damage Caused by Space Objects.

I'm not an orbital scientist (but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night), and my theory is that it's orbit is becoming less rounded and right now looks more like a hexagon or pentagon. It gains speed as it loses altitude and the speed gain is enough to briefly escape the curvature of the Earth and reach another high point on the pentagon where it slows and dives back in slightly closer each time with more speed.

If true, the pentagon will eventually become a square, then triangle, and make one last peak before it's final pass becomes too close.

I mean, it sounds good right? I have no freaken idea.

CONUS is clear for a while. It won't pass over for about another 10 hours or so.

I am betting a Pacific Ocean site with very little debris, 200 miles off the Asia coast around 9:30EST

Here's another site that shows the projected altitude over the next few hours, among other things.

LINK

Agree overall. I'd say closer to 9EDT if I had to guess and a little further out than 200. Either way. CONUS is safe.

Edit: latest update now looks just west of the southern tip of South America. Still 9ish EDT

IIRC it will be in atmosphere one it’s altitude is around 100km.

Is that about right?

it looks as if CONUS was always safe other than the Michigan call someone made and put them with their heads between their asses to kiss it goodbye.

I’ve seen better space stations land in the quad.
