Can you explain how an attorney who protects copyrights and trademarks is more qualified to talk about the oil field than people working in the oil field?

You sound like every other egotistical, narcissistic attorney I know.

I know a lot of you work in the oil industry, and you damn well know tariffs are a terrible idea. Not only will we lose one of the biggest importers of our oil as they'll go elsewhere (likely Russia) for their oil, but everything will go up in price due to the backlash we will receive.

I think we can all agree these tariffs are such a bad idea. There are other ways to try and lessen the deficit, this will actually make the deficit even worse.

You have no clue on how the global oil supply works, do you? The proposed tariffs are on IMPORTS to the US from China. Take a wild guess on how much oil we import from them?

Do you even know how much oil we export?

Are you aware that we have only been allowed to export oil out of the US since 2015?

Ps - We aren't in their top 20 list of suppliers...

I hope you're not a farmer, either.

Food is a little different from most things, because people HAVE to have it. You have to buy it from where it is available.
The U.S. is in a pretty reliable position in farming.

There's no question China is stealing intellectual property, but thinking putting tariffs on their imports is going to force a deal to have them join any of the treaties and discourage stealing the intellectual property is laughable.

They have legions of hackers that steal trade secrets as well, but again, putting tariffs on their imports will not force China into trying to prevent it.

They'll just go elsewhere.

But I like your naive thoughts though.

Also 90% of the oil companies do not allow Chinese steel in their components.

It's probably higher than that.

I've yet to source any Chinese steel for the oil industry.

(like patents) that can be duplicated?

Many companies were forced to give up their patents if they wanted to do Business in China.. Then the Chinese copied their products.

They are so quick to copy things that they purchased and copied an Epson printer.. They then copied the owners manual on how to use it, parts etc. Problem is they changed the model number on "their version" of the printer but forgot to change the 800 number for support. When purchasers called the 800 number and got Epson and gave them the model number they did not have a model printer with that number on it.

Most of us actually have a better vocabulary, like calling people “fricking intellectually disableds” instead.

So you then would agree they are not acting in good faith on free trade?

China allows and even encourages trademark/copyright infringement. A Prada purse or Rolex watch are mimicked and sold at a 5-10-fold lower price. As an intellectual property attorney, I'd think you'd know that.

They don't care about patents on anything.

Just ship them what you want made and presto in 8-10 weeks you have a container load of product.

Of course they aren't. They never have been, but forcing tariffs will not work. I don't think you guys understand the negative effects of what this will cause.

The products you buy will go up substantially due to this. This includes literally everything, as the trade war will extend to other countries since they know we'll also be desperate for a deal.

It extends past that. In the power industry, only 1 Chinese foundry that I am aware of in our circle is approved by the EPC's we work with.

Explain why we are exporting oil and importing oil at the same time.

Which will obviously be bad for the oil industry.

Btw, put me on record as being anti-tariff.

Again, what products? You are so far out in left field you dont even know what in the frick you are talking about.

100% Trump is negotiating right now. We are the worlds largest consumer of goods. Who in the fricking right mind would start a consumer trade war with us?

China would and will.

I hope you guys enjoy your $5 gas and $10 milk. Also, you'll be purchasing less gas because of this, so it won't be helping the industry.
