We are past the point of reconciliation. There doesn't exist any middle ground. The fundamental differences between the two sides doesn't allow middle ground. I don't know if it will take years, decades, or a generation.... but it will come to pass.

Depends on how you define the “left” and the “right” and on which issues.

If you mean Democrats vs. Republicans, it appears they have found some common ground in increasing deficit spending and more debt. The Republicans have decided that’s a good and necessary thing like the Democrats with the only difference being where they waste money. The two sides are nearly indistinguishable, today.

On social issues such as illegal immigration, race relations, DEI, and sexual perversion, there does exist a much larger gap, although on some sexual perversion the right has ceded some deviancy as normal.

There has always been division. People always the political environment in their time is worse than ever.
