Exactly. Didn’t Mufasa’s talk with Simba basically explain that all the animals are essentially created equal and just part of one balanced system?

"At a moment in our history when the far right is on the rise, when we debate whether to call the horrific shelters on our border concentration camps or not, and when anti-Semitic and Islamophobic hate crimes continue to increase"

The story doesn’t make any sense on its face, what is particularly “fascist” about it?

Well, there is fascism in the Lion King, but it is pretty much a movie that revolves around why it’s a bad idea. The villain advocates for it and is pure evil. You have to be a retard to think the film advocates for it.

And thank goodness for it. Because there are really smart people knuckle draggers like me have plenty of opportunity to make a good living. The more uber rich business tycoons the more high paying jobs available. It's not a difficult equation to understand.

Wow I didn't know lion king was so based. Will watch now.

I didn't fully read the article, but I feel like they didn't answer the JQ in the lion king, or even have a certain subsection designated as Jews. Maybe they already got rid of them, and this is a late fascist regime.

What Fascist concepts are in the Lion King? Isn't it a monarchy/feudalism?

This sort of thing is why historians... and not associate professors of media studies... should be the gatekeepers on what is and isn’t facism.

The governmental system most represented by Mufasa is absolutism, aka divine monarchy. His place as king is assured by spiritual mandate, he is not elected. He is the supreme authority. He had advisors, but is not required to listen to them. He is at the top of a great chain of being, with divine orders above and mortal orders below.

Scar is the one who represents fascism. Scar also rules absolutely, but his path to power was through the masses, of popular revolt. Fascism is a political system that is whatever it’s leader needs it to be. In Italy it was a system focused on restoring national glory. In Germany there was a racial component to it. But the common factor is popular manipulation and a “man of action” at the center. This is Scar, not Mufasa.

To a lesser degree, the author lives and works in the Netherlands. Even if he is American, I find it hard to believe he could have his finger on the pulse of mainstream America from over there. Perhaps his point of view is warped by the media coming to him from the US. The very media he professes to be an authority on.
