Two of the four members of the group known as "The Squad" – an influential group of progressive first-term minority congresswomen – are facing serious Democratic primary challengers in the coming weeks.

In Minnesota’s heavily Democratic 5th Congressional District – which covers much of the city of Minneapolis and was ground zero for the nationwide protests sparked by the death of George Floyd – freshman Rep. Ilhan Omar is facing multiple challengers on the Aug. 11 primary vote, including one challenger who has dramatically outraised her.

quote:

And in Michigan’s overwhelmingly Democratic 13th Congressional District, which includes parts of Detroit and the inner suburbs of Wayne County, the Aug. 4 primary is a rematch from two years ago, as first-term Rep. Rashida Tlaib is trying to fend off Detroit City Council President Brenda Jones.

quote:

The district was held for more than half a century by John Conyers Jr., a co-founder of the Congressional Black Caucus who died last year. When Conyers stepped down in 2018 amid accusations of sexual harassment, Jones briefly held the seat after narrowly edging Tlaib in a special election to fill the rest of Conyers’ term.

But Tlaib won a separate election for the new two-year term, starting in 2019. That election included six candidates. Jones, who is Black, now enjoys the support of the other four candidates from the 2018 election. Tlaib is Palestinian-American — and she made history alongside Omar in 2018 as the first two Muslim women elected to Congress.

Race is a factor in the 2020 primary rematch.

Saturday Night Live, Feb. 10, 1979:

Garrett Morris comes out dressed as Cicely Tyson and begins to open the show. It doesn't take long before the real Cicely Tyson arrives and asks Garett what the hell he is up to. This is when he explains that his contract is solid and it states that he gets to play any character who is darker than Tony Orlando.

Multiple challengers means she'll win as the challengers split the opposition vote.

The real question: will they be replaced by Dems even more radical than they are?

this is a party primary, correct?

if none of the multiple challengers (inc. the incumbent) gets 50%... is there a primary run-off to see who goes to the general election?

serious inquisition

If there are multiple Dem challengers, could they all split votes and the incumbent wind up winning by majority? That would suck balls.
EDIT: Sorry already posted.

One of them has raised a lot of money however. They may coalesce around that candidate.

Before you get too excited - their competition may be running an even wackier socialist platform.

It doesn't matter in NYC now. They are about to elect more commies for her to team up with.

Is it possible to get more radical than a pair of Muslim extremists?

Frankly, since these districts will remain Dem, I'd just as soon they keep their seats. They usually have some good sound bites that show just how radical the Dem party of today is.

Yes - Her opponent had some big time contributors from NYC and Wall Street who hate AOC and were pissed at her running the Amazon HQ out

I guess my point is don't underestimate the stupidity of their constituents who put them there in the first place.
