I'm not talking about the 20% in college stat. I haven't seen that until this thread.

Interesting.

Here are some important quotes:
quote:

So, first of all, it’s important to remember that this is a single survey, based on the experiences of students at two universities. As the researchers acknowledged, these results clearly can be generalized to those two large four-year universities, but not necessarily elsewhere.
The researchers clearly state that these results cannot necessarily be generalized anywhere outside those two universities.

Why are we generalizing outside those two universities then?
quote:

“Another limitation of the CSA study, inherent with Web-based survey, is that the response rates were relatively low. Although the response rates were not lower than what most Web-based surveys achieve, they are lower than what we typically achieve using a different mode of data collection (e.g. face-to-face interviewing).”
Low response rate also.

i don't agree with either, but neither are really a big deal at all and should not be linked with rape or sexual battery

then which one are you discussing?

that's teh one that is being used in this context, as it specifically addresses the issue on campus (which is what teh OP is discussing). this is the state that the administration has repeated early and often

where is the other stat from?

I'm not sure anyone disputes rape is under reported.

Good post. If George Will doesn't ACTUALLY resent women maybe you should give him some pointers on how to get a point across.

Does he? Or did he correctly ascertain that you weren't even on topic?

no he doesn't. he disagrees with your explanation/analysis. i do as well

i've never seen a stat on reporting based around "reporting to shelters". it's always based on survey data

I found Will's and MSCoast's points to be nearly identical and easy to comprehend.

Well if you've never seen it, I guess it hasn't ever happened.

it would be cool to have a female or two in this discussion

Hi, I am a female. You are too naive or obtuse to be taken seriously.

I would LOVE to see bipartisan efforts made to criminalize rape claims that turn out to be false.
False accusations should be punished. The ability to ruin a man's life because a woman is pissed or whatever should not be possible.

If I were a single man I would be celibate.

i asked you to post about it and you didn't

can i just make bold statements and then make up my statistical support. then when somebody criticizes the analysis behind my bold statement, i can just pull the "well you haven't seen it, so you can't say that i'm wrong" move ?

I think it's very odd how defensive some of you are about this.

After a quick google search, here's a link to an HP article about a survey that included CDC methodology, part of which was a survey of shelters.

LINK

I'm sure you'll find some nonsense to try to nit pick about it though
