The term moron and idiot used to be medical terms. The same with cretin. The first two were the lowest on the iq score. Cretin was causes by low iodine while pregnant and the baby had a certain set of developmental abnormalities including low iq.

The reason these terms became bad was you use them on people who aren't suffering from these problems to insult them.

These terms being used as an insult mean you shouldn't use them in medical terms any longer because the culture has hijacked the term.
