"The opioid crisis"

Is anyone sick of hearing about this? It's sad but at the same time these people are responsible for their own choices. My doctor got me hooked just doesn't cut it, be an adult. But I guess our government needs to spend hundreds of millions to help the junkys. Sigh

So our government should pay for their troubles? You are the neo con of the board right?

quote:While I think crisis is a bit of "sensationalism," it is clear a major problem, especially because some opioid are among the most addictive and lethal drugs. But when if it is sensationalism, this comment:
Is anyone sick of hearing about this?
quote:is ridiculous.

First there are multiple factors, and it's not just a Dr got them hooked. Some of it relates to the government trying to address it by increasing regulations, and people chose illegal and more dangerous alternatives (heroine).
The most alarming issue is that while Heroine is amongst the most lethal and addictive drugs, even more lethal compounds (like Fentanyl) are being used.
But these aren't just "man up" situations. These are substances that cause addiction and dependency that willpower alone is not enough to reasonably stop. Worse yet, the withdrawal from the medicine can often be deadly in and of itself.

Lortab went schedule 2 and here we are.
This was supposed to fix everything! What happened, DEA?
Dumb fricks.

Our government already paid for their troubles. Not a question, a statement.
Ask yourself... why is Poppy production at an all time high in Afghanistan? You think those 19 dams buiit by the US Army Corps of Engineers in Afghanistan was the result of thirsty people?
Big Gov & Big Pharma... Brother.

The ignorant people are the ones who don't know the danger of taking prescription painkillers. There's a warning label for a reason

Tell that to a soldier with limbs blown off. Tell em to just suck it up. Call them a pussy.

If you think the "crisis" centers around that . Very small percentage

Look it's certainly not unavoidable, but they are so easy to get, and legal to carry around, doesn't take long at all to become addicted, easy to refill. Being someone who has a very very close friend being affected, i
I share the empathy of a family going through it. I don't think it's quite as easy as you think to not get hooked on that pain not being there.

For some people sugar is their heroine. I bet this board wouldn't support taxpayers paying for weight loss surgeries

You're correct for most people but all it took for me was a huge wakeup call and no social life for a few months so it can be done without rehab or something similar

You called everyone addicted to opioids ignorant

It's incredible how quickly personal responsibility has left the GOP. Or maybe I just haven't been paying attention and it never was really there.

Being addicted to opioids is ignorant. Not aware of the dangers. Pretty much spot on
