You act like I should feel shame for having this attitude. I do not. I'm a military man and my job is to put warheads on foreheads. The Russian military has the same job and views me as much of an enemy as I view them. And no, I couldn't care less how we got to this point. I operate in the here and now when it comes to armed conflict. I leave the second guessing to the historians.

These are the Ukrainian casualty figures, affording to the Russians.
Estimates are always hopeful in my experience. Armies always overestimate, it’s guesswork, and they have a structural incentive to predict larger numbers.
But the Russian claim 23,367 Ukrainian soldiers killed. With more than 4,000 killed in Mariupol.
The Russian also claim to have captured more than 1,300 POWs in Mariupol. Potentially 2,000.

And Russia conquered Crimea several centuries ago. They recently annexed it again.
