Many people who work at or use senior centers, libraries and schools were dismayed over the weekend at the amendments and other proposals that were voted down.
I went on FB for the lulz. It turned into a civil war among LA Libs.
There was the camp distraught at the outcomes.
Then there was the camp that responded 'You got caught up in the righteous war against Landry and his goons. Sucks. But that's how it is."

I tend to believe that a lot of those tax renewal vote downs are a sign of the future. Old folks used libraries and they're dying off, younger folk have their phone and the internet. For those of us who bridge that age gap, I don't want to pay those taxes anymore.

Library funding wasn’t on my ballot. Nothing about senior centers either.

Library funding was on the ballot in the Lafayette area. Not sure about senior centers.

IOW, local issues hit an iceberg caused by the “no on everything” statewide campaign.

Library funding and senior (council on aging) funding got voted down in Lafourche -- possibly in other parishes I'm not aware of. Lafayette and Lafourche definitely.

I get your point. I do a lot of research and writing at my job, so it's valuable to actually have hard copies of large books and documents available instead of having to try to scroll through all that shite on a phone.
But I understand that need for me is not the same as a lot of other people. So I just try to roll with the resources that are available.

It was a perfect storm of people finally looking at their local governments and the high inflationary costs of things. The price of gas is higher than avg and everyday voters are sick of government wanting more. Also a contentious senator incumbent that people wanted voted out had more than average show up.

It didn’t shock me on the results. It was a pushback. Probably next year they will put them back on the ballot for people to miss. I don’t have much faith in the everyday voter to show back up.
