I think its quite clear the republicans had resigned to the idea of not winning the white house any more after 2008. They were ok with running loser candidates for the sake of fundraising but they never intended to win any of the Obama elections or the 2016 election.

I think it was kind of understood democrats could keep the white house while republicans get the house and/or senate and have just enough of a controlled opposition to give off the appearance that they are fighting back but in reality they're slowly giving the democrats/globalists everything they want.

This pretty much sums it up. Republicans were perfectly happy continuing to run guys like McCain, Romney and JEB! who all filled the same role.

"I have some disagreements with my friend on the other side of the aisle, but Obama/Hillary/Biden are not bad people." We just disagree on some policies, etc.

JEB! vs. Hillary would have been the same path as Obama's elections....an energized Dem base of nasal sounding clones of Hillary sweeping her into the presidency.

I still remember that first debate that Trump figuratively smashed a 2x4 across Jeb!’s face.

Jeb! was stunned, frozen.

You could tell no one had ever talked to him like that before, ever, in his life.

It was hilarious.

I know many here remember, but when the GOP debates started the candidates were positioned on stage according to where they stood in the polls. In the beginning, Jeb was positioned in the center because he was leading in the polls.

But after Trump pulled back the curtain and exposed Jeb as basically an empty-suit Establishment hack, Jeb started sliding in the polls and also on the debate stage. Trump even mentioned it a couple of times.

Before Trump, Jeb's image was one of having been a pretty good Governor of Florida, and his second attribute was the Bush name (which hopefully most people see as a joke now). Those are the same two attributes that his brother George W. rode to the White House, because there was nothing special about George W., either.

I do believe that Hillary would've defeated a run-of-the-mill GOP candidate in November, anyway. It's incredibly scary to even think about 8 years of the America-hating race-baiting community AGITATOR Obama being followed up by (potentially) 8 years of Hillary Clinton.

Thank you, Donald Trump.

It would have looked more like a hereditary ordained presidency— like closer to an a actual monarchy (looking you useful “No Kings” fools)

Hillary Clinton was not a great candidate and would have struggled against other Republicans, as well. Credit to Trump as he is the one who did it, but I don’t but the notion that not he could have done it. The real pity is the COVID outbreak. It allowed for Joe Biden, the embarrassment of January 6, and I also think caused a change in Trump, too, as I don’t think you see the interventionist approach from him if he wins in 2020.
