uneven sentencing

Arrests and sentencing aren't the same thing.

It's an easily recognizable smell. I own a business in a lower income area where you can smell it on certain folks every time they come in and the smell lingers for several minutes. I have friends and family who smoke and yet you would never know until they talk about it. So, yes if certain races don't give a crap whether or not they get caught because sentencing for it is a joke and they know it. (I really wouldn't care if they made it legal to be honest)

The number of marijuana arrests for blacks dwarfs those for whites, despite marijuana usage between the two to be fairly similar. Add in the population discrepancy between the two races, and the difference is even more glaring.

Maybe - usage might be similar, but I'd have to be shown that trafficking levels are similar as well. In addition, how many of those marijuana offenses are tacked on to other, existing charges? Picture is a lot more complicated than "white people and black people use at the same rate, and therefore, the law is applied unevenly".

When as statistics show over and over again minorities receive harsher sentences for comparable offenses it is racist.

No, there are plenty of other reasons for this to be the case. To boil it down to the color of a person's skin is dishonest.

In most cases they can get a summons (like a traffic ticket) for a small amount.

Without having spent much time in Alabama, I would guess it has it's little enclaves that drag the rest of the state down.

Alabama has one of the countries oldest non-updated State Constitutions in the USA, in fact it might even be the oldest.

It's like other states use a satellite medium to conduct business and here you have Alabama using the pony express and a canal system...

I went once for a game. I thought it was nice, but didn't venture much past the stadium area.

Not sure if it's the oldest, it is definitely the longest. It's the longest such document in the world. It was written in 1901 and its primary purpose was further subjugation of the black race.

Ummmmmm....no. It is the nation's longest. It is also probably the nation's most updated as it has 928 amendments. It is a horrible constitution, but if you're going to criticize it, do it for the right reason.

What you were able to see from the stadium is the city. The University is the city basically.

Opelika on the other hand, can be pretty shitty. Has some decent areas but some really shitty ones.

''To boil it down to the color of one's skin is dishonest''
No, to use that article which doesn't use apples to apples comparisons to pretend factors like comparative rates of crime haven't been factored in is either dishonest or uneducated.
When looking at like to like arrest for drugs inner city minorities are incarcerated at a far higher rate.
It is likely the ability to hire skilled council and other environmental factors are built in but the net result is unequal application of our laws.
