YouTube - ABC News 1984 Election Night Coverage

Which gives us this doozy at 3 minutes in... as Peter Jennings tells us that Joe Biden has won re-election to the Senate

"Joseph Biden, who is considered a presidential candidate in '88, was running for his 2nd term."

ETA: ABC News 1984 Election Night Coverage Pt. 4

ABC was doing a live interview with Reagan's White House Chief of Staff when they called Michigan for Reagan to put Reagan over 270 and clinch re-election

Reagan came within 0.18% of winning all 50 states in 1984. The only state he lost was Minnesota, his opponent's home state, and he lost it by just under 4,000 votes.

525-13 is still the biggest electoral landslide in history.

Agree. I've always followed politics but never thought the MSM was basically a Democratic shill until about 15-20 yrs ago.

And yet he didn't clear 60% of the pop vote.

It's amazing how split the country is and has been.

Reagan got the economy going and union workers still voted Dem. Check out the Iron Range.

The other crazy things about this election are the Democrats gained 2 Senate seats and held the house (winning the popular national vote by +5.1%)

What I remember was the media being less obvious but still in the tank. There was a lot of talk about the former actor (rarely was it mentioned he was also the governor of California) was running, was leading, etc.

They also treated everyone of his policy positions as crazy, Ronnie Raygun was just the tip of the iceberg.

They also harped on his mental fitness, his age, his senility, etc. Same old communist playbook we see being used against Trump.

FDR had a worse one, like 511-8

But yeah the ‘84 Olympics had a lot to do with Reagan winning like that. The USA won the most medals ever at that time and it was held in Los Angeles

Foregone conclusion. The media was liberal then but not nearly to the extreme that they are now.
