Their ships. We have far more choices than they do.

American cargo ships use the Canal to traverse, most do not unload or load there

According to available information, around 70-72% of ships using the Panama Canal are either heading to or coming from U.S. ports, meaning a relatively small percentage actually unload cargo directly in Panama itself; most ships using the canal are simply passing through to reach ports on the Atlantic or Pacific coasts of the Americas.
Key points:
Majority to US ports:
The majority of traffic through the Panama Canal is destined for or originates from U.S. ports.

Trade efficiency:

What are the relative positions of these 3 in the consortium? Is BlackRock the majority/senior partner?

Panama’s five ports, Hutchison’s are the biggest — one at each end of the canal. According to the Panama Maritime Authority, Hutchison’s ports last year served vessels carrying 39 percent of the cargo containers that passed through the canal, one of the world’s most vital waterways. (The other ports are owned by a Taiwanese company, a Singaporean company and an American-Panamanian joint venture.)

LINK

60% of container traffic (70% originates or ends in the USA) does not utilize the ports in question.

Come on, NY Times. Do you have a non-paid subscription link? What you have quoted so far has not given any detail to your claims.

I'm sure they'll make a shitload of money off the Chinese vessels coming through and utilizing the ports.

I managed a port. Ships dont stop to drop off a container or two. They ship to Long beach where materials are consolidated on a single ship and sent to Panama.

Most US flagged ships traverse the canal, they dont patronize the ports.

Do I like BlackRock getting these ports?

No.

Is it better for America than Communist China owning them?

Absolutely. Anyone who can’t see that is a complete idiot.
