Now on elective surgeries.

quote:

As COVID-19 continues to spread in Texas and as hospitalizations continue to set new records statewide, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) issued a proclamation Thursday suspending elective surgeries in more than 100 counties to expand hospital capacity. The governor's proclamation Thursday targets 11 of the state's 22 Trauma Service Areas that will now be forced to suspend elective surgeries to help ensure "an ample supply of hospital beds for COVID-19 patients," Abbott said.

I don’t get this. If hospitals are nearing and trending to capacity, it’s the responsible thing to do ensure critical health care services remain available.

Hospitals are supposed to operate near capacity all the time. Otherwise they lose money.

That happened at least 2 times in the state in the 2018 flu season.

I forgot where I saw that but I saw it.

That's a huge IF

Florida and Georgia has destroyed Texas in providing valuable public data.

Not a single fricking outlet or member of Abbott's team has provided the age of the new spikes, the demographics, how full are the hospitals, are ICUs used because covid or other things.

Nothing. We haven't seen any specific data other than muh tests are rising and muh hospitalizations.

Nothing even remotely pass those data points.

No. The responsible thing to do is stay out of it and let the hospitals figure it out.

Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt that he has data which shows at current trends, capacity will be exceeded.

The quickest way to recalled/ voted out is to watch it happen, be warned that it’s happening, and still do nothing.

Would give the left a victory

Let’s be honest

We know what’s in the data

Mostly young people testing positive

Tons of Hispanics

Hospital beds likely full of paranoid 40-50 year olds with insurance

I can tell you elective surgeries aren’t being cancelled. I’m in them everyday haha. They need to explain elective surgeries better, typical media.

Come on... They're supposed to have 100's of beds for just in case.
