Testing Process Question

I’ve been thinking about this for a while now. Maybe someone on here can answer this question.

If we can spread covid by coughing why do they need to stick a q-tip to the back of my sinus cavity to test for it?

Seriously, if it can be spread so easily why can’t they test my saliva to see if I’m infected?

They aren’t sticking it very far up at my Grandpas nursing home
He has been tested 3 times & says he doesn’t know how they get anything with how they do it now

Saliva tests are available and more are under development. There are also cheek swabs. But for now, the most reliable are NP swabs.

Amount needed to make another sick =/= amount needed for a machine to detect it.
