Something tells me this has more to do with environmental activists convincing the BLM to create 100,000+ acres of Gold Butte as a sensitive area for the desert turtle and forcing the cattle to be removed from that area than the grazing fee itself.

Yeah, America will wake up. Wake up to the media telling them the threat of right wing extremism.

1. This family owned this land privately prior to the existence of the BLM.

2. The Feds then came in decades later and claimed that it was Federal land and wanted a piece of the pie. The Bundy family agreed to pay some grazing fees.

3. In 1993, the BLM "reclassified" the land in order to protect a fricking turtle. A TURTLE!!!! This "reclassification" changed the level of the fees and imposed some stupid regulations on how and where the cows could graze in order to protect the turtle.

4. The Bundy family has been frustrated with this for generations. It has finally reached a tipping point. It should have never gone this far.

If this turtle shits gold or something then I can understand. However, we have 4 turtles living in our courtyard right now. I'll give the BLM a couple if it makes them happy.

Harry Reid just last year had some of their habitat "reclassified" because it helped a major campaign donor to develop the land.

Just more of our "betters" telling us peons how we shall toil under them.

This is probably true. Of course, old Harry could be needing the land for something as well.

Edit: Damn it!

***not the same*** but think of it like a civil rights protest of a sit in at a white only counter in Alabama. Everyone knows the rules. Everyone knows there is going to be punishment. The point of what he is doing now is to force public outcry. Its often the only way to get things to change.

Pretty much sums it up.

I don't know if they still have it, but there used to be a dirt bike race from Barstow to Vegas. The enviro-whackos wailed about motorcycle tracks ruining the pristine habitat of the desert tortoise, so some nutjobs set up booby traps at choke points that could have killed someone or put them in a wheelchair.

At the same time, I was on my bike waaaay in the middle of nowhere north of Apple Valley, CA. I had a Coors in my forkbag and was looking for a great place to drink it. I made it up a little butte and was just about to pop the top when I saw a tortoise that had managed to work itself onto a rock that jutted out over a 100' drop. Proverbial turtle on a fence post. Despite the little shite's hissing and attempts to bite me, I pulled it back and set it down on a path off the butte.

I saved more tortoises that day than the greenies who wanted to kill humans.

Yup, I think this could end badly now... All it is going to take is one mistake on either side of the aisle and someone is going to end up dead.

Better pay your fees to BLM or they'll come evict you off "their" land.

Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy’s decades-long battle against the federal government over grazing rights has heated to the point where militia groups have joined in and taken up spots against the feds who’ve circled his land — and talk is, they’re not afraid to open fire.

A spokesman for the one of the militia groups said as much to local 8 News Now: I’m not “afraid to shoot,” he said.

In doing so you probably violated three laws and four regulations. BLM will be coming for you shortly. We will miss you.

And the prodding begins...

quote:

Clark County Commissioner Tom Collins has caused outrage by remarking that Utahns planning to travel to Nevada to support Cliven Bundy in his standoff against the feds “better have funeral plans”.

The comments were revealed by Darin Bushman, a Piute County, Utah, commissioner after he spoke with Collins about Utah ranchers and his colleagues on the County Commission complaining about tactics used by Bureau of Land Management agents during their seizure of Bundy’s cattle in southern Nevada.

“I was just told by commissioner Collins of Clark County NV that all of us folks from Utah are a bunch of “inbred bastards” and if we are coming to Clark County NV to support Cliven Bundy we all “better have funeral plans”. We should “turn our asses around on mind our own f-ing business”. Now there’s some classy leadership for you,” wrote Bushman on his official Facebook page.

If you worked for the BLM and were asked to go out with guns, dogs, and tasers and treat your fellow Americans like this, could you do it? I couldn't. I'd be looking for other employment.

If there is a leader anywhere in our Federal Gov't, he/she needs to pull back. They are provoking and pushing people into a corner. Nothing good can come of this. People are tired of an over-reaching Federal Government and this whole thing is a smoldering powderkeg.

I'm sure those bemoaning the desecration of the desert tortoise habitat knows the BLM supports herding wild horses for slaughter.

Better yet, what would it cost to move the Turtles instead of the cattle?
