Trump knew they ultimately would regain some amount of power in the region, likely all of it. He gauged Ghani as slimy and worthless from the get go.
He said exactly that in his interview the other night.
Most of the guys installed into these heads of state are. In it looking to see how much money they can skim for themselves. Which is what he did and then popped smoke to one of the stans with his loot.

Obviously Trump didnt consider them an enemy when he met with them at Camp David last year and released a lot of Taliban leaders from incarceration.
Apparently he told the leader of the Taliban that he knew his home village, which apparently silenced him, and Trump said if they betrayed the agreement that he’d first start by bombing and killing everyone in his home village. That’s simultaneously sick and hardcore. He wasn’t fricking around there.

And apparently Trump threatened everyone from the Taliban leader’s childhood… can’t say I approve of that, but yeah that means he wasn’t fricking around.

We invaded Afghanistan because of Al Queda, not because of the Taliban.
By most intelligence reports that have been released, even at this stage, they are one in the same.
But you don't "blow the airport". It isn't even our airport. We were put in such a piss poor position that we had to take over the airport, which was never supposed to be part of the plan. Commercial flights were never supposed to stop. We were never supposed to take over air traffic control. And we damn sure weren't supposed to ever hold the people who needed that airport at bay via the barrel of a gun.

Former Defense Secretary Mark Esper said Tuesday that he was concerned that then-President Donald Trump "undermined" the US' 2020 agreement with the Taliban by pushing for US forces to leave Afghanistan without the Taliban meeting the conditions of the deal.
Yeah what a hardcore deal maker, they never followed through they on anything they said they would, and Trump withdrew the troops regardless.

You’re spot on. Especially in the first sentence.
I still disagree here. I don’t think an appreciable amount of the populace will have their eyes opened by the events of the last few days and coming weeks. They certainly should, and I hope I’m wrong, but as you said “we’re spoiled” and overly concerned with first world problems. I think the average American will have to get some skin in the game and experience some hard times before the mindset is changed.
Let me caveat that I’m not talking about people that have lost friends and relatives downrange. I’m not trying to minimize their loss. I’m just trying to make the point that waging war is serious bidness and shouldn’t play second fiddle to shallow pop culture. If that makes sense.

I think they’re about to start understanding that mindset, and that alone should help turn things around.

The Taliban put the Haqqani Network in control of airport and Kabul security. People all over the country have documented foreign fighters fighting right alongside the Taliban.

Is that TDS still paying off? I wasn’t his biggest fan, but we’re done with Orange Man Bad at this point. Move on.

Which part did they not? Hint: the “Taliban” isn’t one big homogeneous group. It’s a collective of scattered tribes.

So you are saying that Trump had a terrorist organization to to camp david last year and negotiated with them? I thought we didnt negotiate with terrorists.
The Taliban are actually enemies of a lot of middle east terror organizations including ISIS.

So you think we should have stayed and expanded our military presence.
Not surprised.

I didnt say that but it was obvious the Taliban was gonna take back over, they were in control there from 1994 til 2001 when we got there. It should've been common knowledge they would take over when we left.
We got rid of Al Queda, that was the goal I thought.

That's exactly what I am saying, but the Haqqani Network running "security" doesn't make that so. Any country, and there have been quite a few recently, that negotiates with the Taliban negotiates with a terrorist organization. Guess what? Biden's Administration has negotiated with terrorists, too!
Nice try on the gotcha, though.
