Supreme Court Opinion Day - Tuesday, June 21

SCOTUS Blog: LINK
SCOTUS Decision Release: LINK
18 Opinions left, including four "big ones"
West Virginia vs. EPA (could end climate change craziness and rogue agency edicts)
NY State (concealed carry as constitutional right)
Kennedy vs. Bremerton (school prayer)
Dobbs (abortion)
First opinion drops at 9 am CT, then every 10 minutes. Opinions are typically released by reverse seniority. On the second link, if you do not see a number in the "R" column, then there will be another opinion released today. I figure we will see 4-5 today. There is another opinion day on Thursday, then I assume two more next week. Probably won't see Dobbs until the last day.
Personal note: I love these discussions, but I am in a meeting today and won't be able to post my normal updates as opinions come out.

These threads are my favorite - like a game thread. I had a meeting scheduled a few weeks ago for 9-10 am this morning, I'll monitor, but wont be able to post the synopsis. There are several others that can pick up my slack today.

First day of summer seems like a great day to fire up the protests (riots).

Hopefully they do overturn RvW because if the left wing carries through with their night of rage it could present some good "self defense opportunities".

Looks like we get to find out which side of the America vs Marxism debate SCOTUS falls on.
While I’m hopeful, at least one justice has no idea what a woman is. So there’s that.

I nominate for inclusion... YouTube - Uncivil Law channel - Live analysis as the decisions come down
Kurt... a lawyer who is part of the LawTube community of streamers... gives live analysis as each decision comes down. He calls it "speed-reading" as he tries to quickly explain each decision before the next 1 comes down
naturally...when 1 of the big 4 decisions comes down... he says he'll spend more time on those due to their importance

now up... United States vs. Taylor
opinion by Gorsuch
from SCOTUSBlog
quote:
The question before the Court was whether an attempted (but ultimately unsuccessful) robbery under the Hobbs Act, which criminalizes an attempt to commit robbery that affects interstate commerce, qualifies as a “crime of violence” for purposes of a federal law that makes it a federal crime to use a gun in a “crime of violence.”
The answer is no.
ETA: still from SCOTUSBlog
quote:
Justice Gorsuch writes that the answer is "clear": Taylor can be subject to up to 20 years in prison for his Hobbs Act conviction, but the court cannot impose an additional 10 years.

Interesting note - With [Kav] drafting Marietta, all of the R-appointed Js except [Roberts] now have a February opinion done. All that is left is WV v. EPA and Ruan. Not exactly a surprise, but likely indicates the Chief will draft EPA. [Kav] could have also given some of his major questions doctrine work and statements from his DC Circuit days.

Wish I understood the legal language.

Breyer's more senior than Alito, no?
If so... that means no Dobbs today
