The people who defend a system led by Bernard Taylor, and think that system would be on par with central or Zachary, if they only had more white kids......I've got some ocean front property to sell them.

Are the St.George schools going to have curriculum that competes with the private schools? Or is the curriculum level still going to be same that is still taught at every public school in the city/state?
The first step is to form a city, but after that it is time to start an ISD.
SG could model itself after Zachary which is rated number one in the state or it could model itself after EBRPSS? Which one do you think they'll try to emulate or even surpass?

I hate to break it to you but most people are tired of all the DUI checkpoints and cops everywhere. I'd be happy with less of a police present. The area doesn't need a ton of police anyway.

The system is essentially the same, save for minor differences
The system is essentially the same, save for better leadership, better administrators, better schools attracting better teachers and students resulting in a "better functioning system". Which is what the parents in SG want.

Parents also want discipline in the schools.
Did you watch Frontline? did you see the thing about the alleged rape at Woodlawn High?
Its more than just academics, it goes to wanting your kids in a disciplined school.

Central had the SAME administrators, the SAME teachers and the SAME facilities. If you somehow really look past the different demographics of the new Central school students and say the change in scores is do to the leadership provided by a new school board...sorry but that is unbelievable.
I understand that it fills a political purpose to frame it as "leadership" but why come on an anonymous web board and take that position?
And here is the thing, I understand why someone would want to get their own school district when poorer performing students where being bussed in. It's completely rational. My posts in this thread weren't really a criticism, more just pointing out the obvious.

Exactly, and most clear thinking people will agree with you and acknowledge the fact that a SG system will likely be a better place for students to learn than the current EBRPSS with exceptions (of course).
And there is more than just race involved, those running the EBRSS have lower expectations in academics and in discipline than what many people believe is acceptable. The EBRPSS leaders are faced with overwhelming numbers of disruptive kids and have given in to them to a large extent.
Instead of weeding out the bad kids, and placing them in an alternative school and enforcing strict discipline in the "regular" schools they seem to accept problem kids and they seem to try and make their teachers adapt to the situation at hand instead of correcting it.

I fully expect that the graduation rate and test "scores" will be lower in the SG schools after a new system is formed. Not allowing problem students to remain "problems" and emerging from the scandalous tactics of EBRPSS will come with an initial price of statistical decline. However, once the system establishes the culture of accountability, it will flourish.

They love to blame the black kids...but that's not racist.

Makes sense, there is no magic pill that can bring back discipline, and standards overnight.
In time though if discipline returns, if good teachers are rewarded and weak teachers dismissed, etc.; then the new school system should flourish.
Look inside EBRPS. Do you think disciplinary problems are tolerated at BRHS or in theother Magnet and Gifted programs? These kids know if they don't toe the line and behave they'll be sent to a neighborhood school and that mom and dad won't like that.
There are waiting lists to get in those schools.
I wonder how many fights they have a year at BRHS compared to Woodlawn High School?
I wonder how many weak teachers are permitted to stay at BRHS, or McKinley Magnet, or any of the other gifted schools? I bet they get removed quickly.
If a weak teacher can not be removed, where do you think they send them?
I've visited inner city schools. I've seen children learning there. I've seen teachers, parents, and volunteers working with children in small groups. I've seen them in line going to lunch and there's no talking in the hallways and nobody is playing grab arse. Why?
Well later I talked to the principal and I found out why. He set standards, he held children and teachers accountable. The school was a good learning environment. It was well kept despite its age and orderly.
I can't testify to the test scores at this school (this was before test scores were public), but I left that school feeling that my tax dollars were well spent.
