I see your argument is changing already.

St. George pays a larger sum of property taxes per capita than Baton Rouge. Fact.

St. George residents don't need to do this...they only need to decide that incorporation is in their best interests.

You don't think people should back up such slanderous claims?

I'm tired of moneyg beating his wife. I won't back my claim up with specific examples but I'll let people decide whether or not it's true.

Yeah, a downtown library paid for off the backs of people 15 miles away is a GREAT idea. How about misusing city credit cards to buy gifts for kids whose parents vote in your district?

If you really can't tell the difference here, you're not even worth answering.

Feel free to back up your claim that the people of St. George pays less taxes than the people of Baton Rouge.

Your standard of St. George needing to identify where Baton Rouge has failed St. George is immaterial. St. George gets to decide on its own whether or not it wants to incorporate. It doesn't have to prove that it is underrepresented. It doesn't have to prove that it is not getting the same benefits of the rest of the parish.

It only has to decide on its own that it is a better situation if it incorporates.

I don't know about you guys, but when I think of clean, well-run governments where corruption is easy to get rid of... I think of small Louisiana towns.

it's hilarious to me that this is the best argument against St. George...that Baton Rouge can't survive without St. George.

Implicit in this argument is the acceptance that Baton Rouge has no chance at fixing the problems that are causing this movement in the first place.

It's not that Baton Rouge won't survive, its that it wont prosper. And when the portion of that population that is worse off than it was before resorts to crime, where do yo think they will go? Maybe right down the street to St. George

I believe that is why Russian is so concerned. He knows it is very likely to pass. He thinks his best chance of opposing it is to spew as much nonsense as possible to muddy the waters.
Thanks for the info. Really seems weird to me. If Baton Rouge is incorporated the the property in St. George should be maintained by the Baton Rouge Corporation.

What would stop any town from breaking up once one part felt that they had more assets in their backyards, so to speak?

This is a perfect example of what I was talking about before.

So it's basically extortion then?

The people of StG need to pay them to keep them from committing crimes?

St. George isn't part of incorporated Baton Rouge. You realize this, right?

Oddly enough, it's probably in the running for cleanest, most well-run governments in Louisiana.

The biggest scandals are that a council member bought some gifts for poor kids and that they want to build a library in the core of the city.

Is there anything more racist that you've heard in the St. George discussions than his argument? And, people have the nerve to say St. George is a racist movement.

I have no concern that St. George will be capable of managing its own government if it chooses to.

Illegally using a city credit card without any authorization to do so. The kids of voters in her own district. You really don't see a problem with that?

where nobody lives and few visit

Ever wonder why the contractors who get the vast majority of BR contracts are opposed to St. George?

Russian:

Do you have kids?

If yes, are they in EBR public schools?

If yes, magnet or no?

He has posted before that his kids are products of the magnet schools in EBR.

My opinion is that this is the source of his point of view. But, he can choose to elaborate if he wishes.

That's what I figured. I'd consider the magnet schools a legitimate argument if there was a spot for everyone. Magnet schools are great for the lucky few who win the lottery.
