Let it burn

quote:

South Bend, Indiana Mayor and 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg is facing backlash over a resurfaced video from 2010 in which he offered words of praise for the right-wing Tea Party movement and expressed a desire to find common ground.

During an October 2010 forum in Indiana hosted by the Tea Party-affiliated group Citizens for Common Sense, Buttigieg—then a candidate for Indiana state treasurer—told the audience that "there's some, especially in my party, who think the Tea Party's a wholly owned subsidiary of the Republican Party."

"But there are many others who believe that the Tea Party's motivated by real concerns about the direction of our government, and the responses of our government to citizens," Buttigieg said. "And above all a frustration with business as usual. That is what motivated me to run. And so while we may come from often very different perspectives, I believe we might find that we have a lot in common."

This is what the commie FB group who posted this said about the article:

quote:

Mayor Pete praised the explicitly racist right-wing astroturf movement created by billionaire Koch Brothers to delegitimize the Obama administration. And let's remember that the Tea Party's only real grievance was that Obama is black.

I remember going to one of the first protests (2009, I think?). It was a heavy Ron Paul crowd. Mostly bitching about the Federal Reserve and income tax. Pretty racist shite, really.

I don’t get this. The far left wasn’t for Pete before. He’s playing to moderates who want to appear woke on gay rights

Looks like Mayor Pete is trying to take the centerlane a la Jon Bel- when we all know he is a radical leftist.

Maybe they're linking him to an actual tea party with British dandies and everything in pink.

Funny how as SOON as Obama left office so did the Tea Party. We will see when the next Democrat wins office if they pop there head back up

Wrong. I was at some Tea Party rallies and it was mainly protesting obamcare. The Tea Party faded away after obama put the irs on them to shut the organizations down.

what?

the original "Tea Party" (of 2010, which the video in OP is referencing) died by 2012 when the Evangelicals like Bachman took over

also, those guys kind of became the Freedom Caucus, which Trump declared war on them in 2018 or so. Obama has nothing to do with the small government movement other than proposing bigger government
