I noted this when our kids left high school. A significant number of them got "scholarships" for sports at small colleges. I put that in quotes because several of these places had annual tuition in the $40K range and were passing out scholarships for $20K. In-state tuition at UK was something like $12K at that time...and most of those kids would have qualified for a partial academic scholarship. So those parents were forking out $8-15K a year to tell everyone little Johnny got a basketball scholarship.
It all worked out in the end. Most of them are selling real estate and insurance these days.

Tuition at Millsaps is $47K per year. Not counting room and board. Add another ten grand per year if you stay in dorm. Meal plan: another $6K per year. SO we are talking $63K per year for what?
Hard to justify spending that much. Now when I went to school here, Millsaps was considered prestigious but that apple lost its luster a long time ago.
