Absolutely ruined the entire sketch, Eddie as Tracy Morgan knocked it out of the park.
Pretty much the only thing funny so far. And they yank him for the stupid Hanks character that got just about zero laughs (even from a crowd full of liberals).

The more they talk about TRUMP, the better....

I'm hoping for just old non political memories when it didnt suck so bad
Ironically, a few of SNL's greatest skits were when they actually made fun of G. Ford, Reagan, G Bush sr, B. Clinton, Ross Perot and his VP candidate Admiral Stockdale, & GWB. The Tina Fey-Sara Palin skits were pretty on-point satire, too. The short-lived VP candidate Walz skits by Jim Gaffigan were the only recent political ones in almost 20 years that met the old level of funny.

Political commentary is ok in doses. A funny Trump impression is good. To do something stupid like using a MAGA hat on a racist is dumb and low IQ from the writers. It’s an attempt at a cheap laugh and lame as frick as a comedian.
A funny racist joke is Clayton Bigsby being a blind black Klan member by Chappelle. That’s creative.

Dennis Miller
Victoria Jackson
Rob Schneider
Jon Lovitz
David Spade
Dana Carvey
Norm MacDonald
Adam Sandler
I know % wise it’s not significant.

And no one laughed. You can be political and be funny, but they forgot that if it ain't funny, it ain't funny.
I don't watch Bill Maher's show, but I catch snippets both here and on YouTube. I watched part of Maher's interview with Kid Rock, an avid Trump supporter, and he was getting cheered pretty well by that California audience who were at a left-wing comic's show.
Imo, there's multiple reasons for believing that even some on the Left are grudgingly impressed by what they've seen from President Trump the first 4 weeks.

18 months after being fired for refusing to stop telling OJ Simpson jokes, Norm was asked back to host and roasts the show in his opening monologue

I remember the debate ones from '92 I think it was with Dana Carvey playing Ross Perot. Those were pretty good

It’s rather amazing how well the Right understands the Left and how clueless The Left is about the Right. Even now, they have no idea who we are and what principles, traditions, ideas and Institutions it is that we seek to conserve and they imagine themselves to be enlightened superheroes. We’ve lived inside the Kulturesmog they have created for so many decades now and they have ZERO insight into who we are.

We watched the movie Saturday Night recently and then after I bought the first season of SNL from 1975 on Prime. We’re about halfway through them. It’s crazy hearing Chevy Chase tell weekend update jokes about President Ford.

Exactly. These "celebrities" are at a low point right now with regards to how they are perceived by the general public
