Net Neutrality is an issue that democrats are clearly in the right on
Anyone who is on the side of the internet being classified as a title 2 utility is not in the right, regardless of what their intentions are.

I think not allowing ISPs to play games with the power granted to them due to government provided money or government provided monopolies means more freedoms.
The restrictions are very straight forward, and are only codification of what was already expected. The change occurred due to a market trend of ISPs abusing their power.
BTW, every single front line champion of removing NN also starts foaming in the mouth at anyone entering “their” turf. I know of one case where they sued the state for not preventing a city from moving on a plan to offer municipal internet service in response to constantly shitty service provided by them.
AT&T and Comcast are NOT the champions of liberty.

Neither is the government. If you're okay with limiting our choices and protecting that already bloated telecom companies, by all means go for it. What is sad is that the pro-NN crowd does not understand that the ends they want can be achieved without title 2 classification. Another example of missing the forest for the trees.

Neither is the US government.
At least with industry you can find other alternatives.

Freedom has nothing to do with industry. Not shocking people don't understand this.

Correct, but Title II appears to be the main goal here.

Unless government has given that industry a natural monopoly with infrastructure in public right of ways, as is the case in the ISP marketplace.

Oh it absolutely is the goal. Republicans attempted to achieve net neutrality without title 2 a few years ago. The Dems completely shut it down. Everyone has been duped into arguing that one side wants free and open internet and the other doesn't. That is crap. The debate is over who wants to classify the internet as a title 2 utility.
Anyone that truly wants a free and open internet would want to run as far away from title 2 as they can.

So.......you think title 2 is going to actually improve this?

Correct and it shows how easily people are duped by simple propaganda.

No, but neither will repealing NN. Keeping NN in place just makes sure that the consumers won’t get shafted by the ISPs which consumers are forced to deal with due to geography and local government picking winners and losers.

Are you saying there's no competition?
Are you under the impression that title II will fix that? If anything, it opens to door for government to grant individual companies a monopoly in certain areas, like public utilities.

It is estimated that around 50 million Americans have only one choice for internet service, and in areas with more than one choice, it's usually only 2 choices. I only have 2 choices where I live - AT&T or Charter.
This notion that more companies are going to enter the market to provide more choices and thus competition is a pipe dream. It may happen in certain major metropolitan areas, but not across the country. The barriers are too high in most instances, with or without NN. The government has already given these companies a quasi-monopoly.
Posted on 5/17/18 at 8:28 am to The Spleen
And title 2 increases those barriers and solidifies the conglomerate companies at the top. It does the exact opposite of what people actually want from NN.

I am saying that this already happened 20 years ago. There already is virtually no consumer choice. Local governments already picked the winners and losers. The infrastructure is built. The barriers to entry long-since erected. NN just keeps these quasi-utilities from abusing their power and limiting the flow of information and services to their customers who have little choice but to accept whatever terms their ISPs thrust upon them by accident of the location of their birth.

Great. All this can be achieved without title 2.
