Why not regulate the monopoly while we foster the competition to destroy it to make sure that the market isn't f&%ked in the meantime?

We do, actually, far more so than we do ISP's.

I need to explain to you why the free and open exchange of ideas without governmental or corporate censorship is important?

you argue this market has INSANE valuation. Anything with that much money changing hands doesnt fall apart because there isnt a monpoly on top.

NOpe. We do not fix prices for groceries. Nor do we prevent grocers from charging vendors for deliver of produce. Nor do we say customers can take as many groceries as they want for a fixed price.

That's the half of it.

They also can't grasp even the concept that today =/= forever.

They can't conceptualize anything they can't already see.

And you can't grasp that the "alternatives" are actually owned by the same companies as the services they are allegedly competing with even though those services don't really perform the same functions or fulfill the same niches. It's akin to saying bicycles compete with cars, but the parent companies of all of the bicycle companies are Ford, GM, and Chrysler.

I think that free and open exchange of ideas is very important although I've no fricking idea why you think that's a response to the question.

We actually do have price controls for products like produce. See the Agricultural Adjustment Act.

Who want's to enter the ISP market - as it is? Basically no one. You think regulating it will attract capital investment? Are you drunk?

People want alternatives. ISP's tend to have really really bad customer service. By preventing them from discriminating by content AND eliminating their monopolization of the infrastructure, you open the door to new ISP's that can either built improved infrastructure, offer a better price, or offer a better service without the consumer losing the ability to use that open internet market in the meantime. It's fixing both problems at the same time.

Youre advocating patching the existing model. That does nothing to increase competition at all.

I think it's funny because my kids are 10 and 8 and I can state with virtual certainty that when they are 40, they won't even be able to comprehend this thread.

They'll read it and wonder, "what the frick are these people talking about"?

It will look like a debate over protecting us from 8 track players.

This could easily be done at the federal level, since most of the monopolies are established by local municipalities.

That would make total sense if NN was really about "eliminating monoplies" or making things "fair".

It's not.

It's a power grab for government and the corporations that can manipulate the government to do their bidding.
