And unfortunately the cost of that was funded by students that mostly don't care about it

This isn't quite as big a deal to me because that kinda describes college on the whole.

Engineers don't really care about money spent in the Music Department. Dance Majors don't give a shite about the new Biology Research Center. And so on.

Yes. I know sports aren't a direct similarity but heck, I'm with Jim Tressel on this one. I believe you should be able to MAJOR in sports.

Even that though may fall apart and college sports may just completely die. I don't know. Maybe they should.

I will say this, I have watched more FCS and Div 2, and 3 football than ever before.

Something about a flawed product with kids giving max effort appeals to me. And the fact that most of these kids are true student-athletes.

Most athletic programs operate at a huge loss

Title IX athletic programs operate at a huge loss. Football and it's built-in cash flow, TV and Corporate sponsorship, pay the bills. Tranny's in Women's sports all but prove that Universities and the Athletic Dept's could care less about revenue losing athletics.

Now that we have NIL I say that they should.

In case you haven't heard, the ante is about to be upped.

As of July 1st, every athletic department in the country will be allowed to spend an additional $20 million per year on top of whatever they are already paying for scholarships.

I can't speak to LSU's situation, but Oklahoma's athletic department is self-funded. It does not take any subsidy from the state. In fact, it gives money to the university.

Yep. The HS State Title game I watched this year featured a team with a D1 QB signee who had destroyed everyone against a team with a consistent history but no true superstars last year. I fully expected a blowout. And, I got one. The latter team shut the QB down. I say blowout but it was actually super close until late when desperation on the part of the favorite led to a couple of mistakes leading to TDs.

When the game was over, I watched the seniors on the field 98% of whom will NEVER see a D1 field and hell, probably 80% of whom just played their last game of football. Seniors from both teams together on the middle of the field............and you could see their pain. Even the pain of the winners.

THAT shite is gold to me.

Hell. What percent even from LSU or BAMA sniff the league?

LSU has like 45 in the NFL including practice squad players. Solid number but still

Even d3 guys are in the league, so all we do is monetarily support pro leagues with schollies.

Two of my lineman signed LOIs recently at a small university. Money is crazy.
