Should the children of U.S. citizen criminals be separated from their families?

Why are criminal illegal aliens more special than actual citizens? I can’t wrap my head around this.

In fairness, progressives are generally in favor of non-monetary bond reform and non-prison alternatives in sentencing, so I'm not sure if they are actually being inconsistent on this one.

Yet they support an authoritarian police state in which state resources up to international counterespionage are used to target political candidates with whom they do not share views, that’s an interesting stance.

The idea is that an illegal charged with a serious crime is brought to justice for the sake of the victim and families involved, but that isn't working too well either when they bond out and haul arse to Mexico.
