Should “local” media companies be allowed to be owned by national conglomerates?

The local media company builds up good rapport and a name, dominates the local market. Then the national company comes in and buys it out keeping the same name and infrastructure in place

Now the media is run by national companies with views that aren’t necessarily “local”

That ship has sailed. WAFB & WBRZ here in BR are MSM parrots. Also they’re full time charity NFP NGO plugging.

KATC getting taken over by scribbs has been a joke. Liberal views on everything spouted by the most untalented group of DIE hires imaginable and it's all across their platform.

The only local news around here are independent blogs... the rest is owned by some large thing or another.

As someone who worked in local TV for years...they don't make enough money for a local company to see it as a worthwhile venture. Larger companies allow scaling and other avenues to increase profitability and revenue.

Local TV is dying. Not quite newspaper yet but the model is on borrowed time

Legacy media is dying since there are many alternatives. Today anyone with a home computer and a cell phone can be a streaming "TV" station.

Worked for Scripps in 2019 and 2020, including the time when we acquired WATC.

Scripps has the most out of touch, snobbish, elitist leadership of any broadcast conglomerate i worked for. I hated going to the Cincinnati HQ. Raycom was far better until Gray bought them.

I don't believe they should, but I don't think we're ever going to unravel that mess now.

The consolidation of the media into the hands of a few giant conglomerates controlled by a handful of people is a serious issue in our country.

ETA: I was saying this back during the Charlie Kirk fallout when two media companies made the decision to remove Kimmel from the air. That decision meant hundreds, maybe more, stations across the country, in many of the largest markets, immediately took the show off the air.

Despite your personal opinions of Kimmel, the power to control information that these few people have was evident, and it isn't a positive.
