Clearly, the court de facto granted leave sua sponte, rather than sending this old man’s letter back to him.

But why? Bias?

it is hard to get into another person’s mind, but my guess is that it was simply harmless. Not worth the effort of harassing the old man by sending it back.

Yeah that would have crushed him.

Maybe, and maybe not. But probably he would’ve gotten annoyed, drafted and filed a motion for leave, and sent the letter back, wasting ridiculous amounts of judicial resources… As compared to simply a file stamp and an initial on a meaningless letter.

A returned letter is harassment?

Knowing what you know about this judge, isn’t there a good chance at this being due to bias?

I can’t imagine that public letters of whining are entered into the record often. Maybe I’m wrong.

Legally? No, I was using the ter in the more generic sense.

Are you acquainted with any old men? My experience says that sending his letter back would be interpreted like a teacher demanding a re-write on a term paper and provoke more action by the old fellow. Just filing the thing defused the situation at the lowest possible waste of judicial resources.

People are just looking for something to bitch about. It seems to have replaced baseball as our national sport..

possible, but unlikely. As I said in the thread yesterday, these sorts of things gets filed from time to time. My experience is that the judge simply tells the lawyers about it, and the thing is forgotten by everyone as the irrelevancy that it is.

She could have slathered a bunch of red lipstick on, planted a kiss on the paper with the notation "Thanks, Philip, for your intelligent and inspiring words. I will certainly leave the requested "mark" on Mr. Stone!- [heart] Amy

P.S. I've made a copy of your letter and will file into the record for the world to see." and then send it back to him.
